i am impressed by the maturity and the reasonableness of the characters (aside from the sister who is in need of serious help). The beauty of the show is that even though it appears to deploy same o'l same o'l tropes, it seldom pushes its luck beyond what is necessary to move the story to the next stage or include a little bit of good natured humour.
It's almost criminal that this is rated 8 when lesser dramas are hovering above 8.5. This is one of the more original plots around as well. Unbelievable.
unpopular opinion, but i'm actually preferring this season to season one; not sure if this is because i'm watching…
I don't think it's quite as unpopular as you think. It could be that the people who don't like S2 as much are more vocal about their disappointment. There are aspects of S2 that are better -- the strong development of the lovelines, the long-term focus on specific patients, the way the show uses the Five to highlight the inner workings of the hospital in creative ways.
There's every reason to believe it's a happy ending especially when Qi Yan tells Yu'er a third of the way into the last episode that "they can finally be together" and that he had been thinking of this for some time. Obviously from what else he says that it's been his plan to hand off the throne to Prince Guang once he was sure that Prince Guang is a trustworthy fellow. Also he got the divine physician to continue dispensing that other drug despite knowing the risks. The more I watch the last episode, the more convinced I am that he's free at last to live the life he's always wanted to.
The drama was good indeed but I am not happy by the fact that Qi Yan gave the throne to Prince Guang. I mean he…
I beg to differ. I think Qi Yan going off and living a carefree life with the woman he loves is the right ending for this show because it was what he always wanted for himself. He was saddled with the responsibility of defeating Qiu Ziliang after Morning Dew even though that's not really what he wanted. The fact that he's always telling her to live free and enjoy the flavours that he won't be able to is a clue that was his endgame.
It's a while since I've cried so much in any drama. But the last 5 episodes were heartrending. The good part is that they didn't rush anything and resolved all the threads in satisfactory fashion. I don't know why C dramas love ambiguous endings but it is what it is and I choose to think positively of it.
For me, the plot, storyline and acting makes it one of the year's best C dramas. The final act was riveting.
Gets better as the show progresses but I still don't see the point of Chu Chu (what an insult to a much better written character from the Imperial Coroner) except that she does serve her purpose in bringing Yuan Yalin into the story. Thankfully Cheng Yang shows some discernment in women is all I can say. But the case of the missing young women though convoluted was quite interesting.
I don't see what's the point of having the female characters if they don't really add anything to the mix except as romantic interests. And what's the point of the female constable Wen Yue taking a deliberately adversarial position to the main detective just to bicker with him? This is just garbage writing hiding behind tropes. Otherwise the cases are okay.
To Love was fantastic. This one is loads of fun. So far so good.
