This drama actually reminds me of the Robert van Gulik's Judge Dee series. He was a Dutch diplomat and sinologist. They were my introduction to Di Renjie and started a lifelong affair over thirty years ago. I think I have almost every single book in that series.
Very good. It's picked up after a bit of lull between 8 and 10. This is a very meticulously plotted detective show. It's a pleasure to watch an intelligent script unfold. The main leads are great characters.
so is this drama not so good? i think the score dropped a little bit
It's certainly good at giving the impression that anyone of the people involved could be the killer and throws around red herrings like there's no tomorrow but it sacrifices tight plotting on the altar of plot twists (which really aren't plot twists). Most of the characters aren't all that likeable. The moral compass of just about everyone is dubious at best.
I for one enjoyed the backstory especially because I thought Namgoon Min's chemistry with Lee Chung-a was rather wasted in Awaken. But it's nice they did something with it here and took it as far as they could. I imagine the backstory is also a set-up for what's to come later.
It's not a bad show. I really liked the artist case. Reminds me of an old fashion Agatha Christie story.
The last four episodes are why I find this drama superior to Blind (which is silly beyond words). It's logical and straightforward, doesn't pretend the suspects list is longer than what it is. Plus the cops are actually interested in doing their jobs even if they don't do it as well as they should. (Why no guards posted at Chief Jeon's room despite what he said?)
The best part of course are the leads -- their dynamic and their banter.
Agreed. I think Blind relies too much on gimmickry to give the appearance of a convoluted plot with its shifting and unreliable points of view. The plot itself isn't that complex and if one just sticks to what is known, it's not hard to follow what's going on.
May It Please the Court is much more grounded in the legal system and unfolds like a classic shodunit.

Haven't we known this for eleven episodes already?

It's a decent enough watch if you're in the mood for a nutty soap opera.

Thanks for reading.
It's a delightful change from watching crazy K dramas.
