I'm amused at all the wuxia tropes that are either being subverted or parodied in some fashion. It's an entertaining enough drama although I don't feel it's quite on par with Joy of Life's storytelling. Possibly it's the pacing and it lacks JoL's exuberance.
Loved it. Had a blast from start to finish. Sure, it's not going to break records but what a fun, zany superhero series. It's been a while since I laughed so much in a K drama.
Wow, the ending was even more ridiculous than I had speculated. This was truly a potentially interesting story in search of a script. Love the leads and the food porn though.
As much as I enjoy this show and accept that celebrity chefs have egos the size of Russia, it's become patently clear that the show needs to start these growth and redemption arcs far sooner. It's almost as if the showrunners are addicted to conflict on steroids and has to trot out every melodramatic trope in the kitchen pantry to make the 40 episode cut. I can't see how the show is going to do an adequate job trying to redeem the likes of Xiaoyu, Elise, Junbin and Boris for starters. Even Song Yiran's growth arc started rather late in the day too. Yeah, okay everybody has a sob story but it's no excuse for being a crappy human being for so much of the drama. What's the point of Victor's romance with the bicycle shop owner as well? That's so arbitrary.
It's a joke.
