Enemies to Lovers done right

This drama delivers the enemies-to-lovers trope flawlessly—without the usual cliché banter, just mutual respect and understanding. The romance between the leads unfolds naturally, making their connection feel truly organic.

Liu Yuning’s portrayal of Lord Wei Shao is nothing short of perfection; it’s as if he was destined for the role. I adore this drama, not just for the main couple but for the supporting cast as well. Special mention to the advisor and the four generals, who added even more depth and enjoyment to the experience.

The one aspect I didn’t connect with was Su E Huang’s character —her motivations for committing those evil acts just didn’t feel convincing. However, this drama absolutely deserves its flowers for the plot, production, cast, the swoony romance, and, most of all, the phenomenal performances of Liu Yuning and Song Zu’er.

Kick Ass Female Lead!

The way this story unfolded was simply brilliant! I actually dropped it initially, but my newfound appreciation for Xin Yunlai after watching "The Glory" made me give it another try – purely for my Yunlai fix! I'm so glad I did, because I ended up absolutely loving it. The main leads' acting was superb, and the romance was utterly swoon-worthy.

Shen Li sets the standard for a strong female lead! Her unwavering courage in battle and the genuine loyalty and admiration she inspires in her army are central to her character. Zhao Liying's portrayal was absolutely spot on, bringing Shen Li to life in a way that made her leadership feel completely authentic. Lin Gengxin also delivered a spectacular performance, masterfully conveying his character's captivating internal conflict between his ultimate destiny and his love.

If you're a fan of costume dramas with an epic love story, and a kick ass female lead, this is definitely for you!

Too much conflicts, too much bad guys

I started watching this drama because I recently became a fan of Xu Kai. After finishing As Beautiful As You, I was eager for more and jumped into this series to get my Xu Kai fix. I had actually tried watching it a few months ago, but I lost interest about 20 minutes into the first episode. Still, my admiration for Xu Kai pulled me back in. I also like Jing Tian, especially from her role in Si Jin, so I decided to give it another shot.

This time, I pushed through the first episode and found it wasn’t as bad as I remembered. That gave me enough motivation to continue watching the entire drama. Unfortunately, the female lead’s character quickly started to wear on me. She constantly set up schemes against the male lead, only to end up in trouble and needing to be rescued. And of course, Li Ni ever the devoted and heroic figure, would rush to save A Ying, only to be betrayed time and again.

As if that weren’t frustrating enough, the plot kept piling on villains and conflicts. Just when one antagonist was defeated, another would emerge, and the cycle repeated endlessly. It became exhausting. I genuinely felt sorry for A Ying, and even more so for Li Ni. Jing Tian is an actress I admire, but her character here was difficult to root for, always pushing her own desires while ignoring Li Ni’s feelings. The emotional imbalance became more grating as the story progressed.

Despite the flaws, the excessive conflicts, the overwhelming number of antagonists, and the frustrating character dynamics, I stayed until the end. Mostly for Jing Tian, but especially for Xu Kai. His expressive eyes and charming smile were the saving grace of this drama.

Love, sacrifice and everything in between

This drama initially felt like a lot to take in, given its expansive world and numerous characters. However, as each character's story unfolded, I grew to genuinely love them. It's a classic tale of love, sacrifice, and saving the world, but what makes it truly special is its masterful role as a prequel, seamlessly setting the stage for the other dramas in the Fox Spirit series.

While I started watching for Zhai Xiaowen and was curious about Ding Yuxi, it was Zhang Yunlong's presence that truly captivated me. This is his first drama that I watched, and I was utterly blown away by his stunning visuals and undeniable talent. His chemistry with Liu Shishi was explosive!

If you're a fan of both heartwarming romance and thrilling fight sequences, this drama is definitely for you! A must-watch for drama series enthusiasts.

Beyond Expectations: This Unassuming Drama Truly Delivers!

I went into this drama blind, purely based on some intriguing clips I stumbled upon on Twitter. Seeing a decent number of episodes available, I thought, "Why not?" Little did I know I was about to be completely blown away! My initial curiosity quickly morphed into obsession, all thanks to the magnetic Xin Yunlai as the quiet, strong, clever, seemingly indifferent yet deeply loving Fu Yunxi.

From the very first episode, I was hooked by Yunlai's intense gaze and powerful presence – seriously captivating! 😍 I adored the contrast between his fierce, aloof exterior and his tender affection for his daughter and Hanyan. The way their quest for revenge unexpectedly blossomed into something beautiful and worth fighting for was just chef's kiss. I ended up devouring this drama, even caving and buying the express package because I simply couldn't wait to see what will happen to these characters I'd grown to love.

Honestly, Xin Yunlai's portrayal left such a profound impact on me that the post-series blues were real! I even found myself diving into his past work – the man is just so beautiful and endearing. 🥰

So, if you're craving a drama with a compelling revenge plot and an epic enemies-to-allies-to-lovers journey, look no further. This is a MUST-WATCH (and definitely rewatch 😉)!

Experience a heartwarming story of youth, love, life, and the journey of growing up.

Such is my love for this drama that it has inspired me to do something I've never done before: write a review. It unexpectedly became an emotional roller coaster. The connection to the characters was so strong by the final episode that saying goodbye felt genuinely difficult.

My first impression was that this would be the usual teen-centric romance drama, following the familiar high school-to-adulthood trajectory. Zhai Xiaowen was my initial draw. However, this drama proved to be so much more, and I found myself utterly in love with it.

Every character in this drama was a delight, from the endearing parents within the compound to the supportive group of friends. However, Huan'er and XiChi's love story was particularly captivating. Their connection felt incredibly organic and sweet, a genuine portrayal of mutual love and support. The actors, Xiaowen and XiZi, brought these characters to life with such natural talent and explosive chemistry. This drama is unforgettable and a definite must-watch!
