I agree, I’ve learnt to read a lot of what these kings do as manipulation. Even when the Haoling king tells his daughters they can do what they want, I read it as a way to goad them into doing what he wants by saying that he can do anything. Then, they go ahead and do something for him because they love him. It appears all very gamelike to me.

She may not be like her parents, but she is willing to work towards what she desires the most. In that way, they are similar. The road to peace is long, but well worth it.
