JCW just passes by in this drama, even his interactions with his wife are made cold and stiff. He's just bait…
The King and Queen have a strained relationship that's defined by politics and public appearance, not affection, even though they seemed to like each other regardless. The Queen walks like a woman of action that was done on purpose. Her face also has personality, she isn't meant to look delicate, her character is not a graceful ornament at court. If the characters were like you want them to be, this would be a different series telling a different story all together.
Internalized homophobia is a large part of this series, that doesn't make this a toxic series. I find the series…
Joo Ha couldn't accept himself being LGBTQ, which is why he was trying to hide behind that aggression. He kept pushing other boys with this gay coded violent flirty energy, but he kept plausible deniability, he could always claim, just joking, I don't actually like guys. Do Yoon literally stepped into his space, over the facade he was shielding himself behind and genuinely kissed him. That kiss was Do Yoon saying - I see you, please choose your real self instead of being a bully. Choose yourself, choose love, choose me, I'm a safe place, trust me.
There's a lot of violence and ugly words directed at yourself and others, when you feel you can't be LGBTQ. Tae Yi's older brother killed himself because it made him feel alone and hopeless, that's violence against yourself. Se Heon's brother pretended his feelings weren't real, that's abusive to yourself. Tae Yi pushed Se Heon against the wall behind his uncle's bar and questioned his masculinity. Tae Yi's mean words and aggression were not directed only at Se Heon but at himself too. Joo Ha was violent against other people, especially other people that he thought were LGBTQ like him, that was violence against others, and also against himself by proxy. All stories are not fluffy.
Internalized homophobia is a large part of this series, that doesn't make this a toxic series. I find the series really hits you in feels and is quite lovely actually.
Internalized homophobia happens when a person consciously or unconsciously accepts homophobic biases and applies these biases to themself. Internalized homophobia encompasses the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that arise from the belief that queerness is bad, wrong, sinful, or inferior to being straight.
An example of internalized homophobia in this series below.
was it just me or did other people get the side couple? like how could Do Yoon like Joo Ha? He's constantly hurting…

guys!! ik theres a lot of people commenting on this rn so im asking u, is there any good chinese bl? especially…
Have you watched Taiwanese BLs? They are in Mandarin Chinese also. BLs like We Best Love seasons 1&2, Unknown, History2 Crossing the Line and History3 Trapped are among the best. Also no censorship in Taiwan so no bromance needed.
I connected with this. It's an 8+ for me. The acting was solid, they really spoke with their eyes. There's 4 main characters that make two couples.
Jazz is juxtaposed with Classical music. Classical music has strict rules Jazz is free flowing. Classical music is a metaphor for current Korean society and Jazz is a metaphor for the LGBTQ community. It turns out the older brothers of the main couple had feelings for each other, but Do Yoon's classical pianist older brother pushed Se Heon's brother away, ignored him and threw away the Jazz composition that symbolized their unconventional relationship. Or more specifically he said he thought he had thrown the Jazz away, but you can't get rid of an integral part of yourself your identity, it will show up somewhere no matter what. The little brothers found their way to each other and chose better, chose to be themselves, their friends did the same. The 4 all end up playing Jazz and non-classical music together denoting change. The undercurrent of violence and denial turns into acceptance love.
Han Tae Yi 🎶Two years ago Tae Yi's big brother committed suicide. The little brother doesn't know why and he is still grieving and depressed and can't sleep well. He falls for a boy, Se Heon, but doesn't realise it at first.
Yoon Se Heon 🎶 He is a new kid that comes to the school. He has a strict dad and an older brother that doesn't rebel and works as a bridge between the dad and his little brother. Se Heon character likes boys and knows it. He accepts himself and his orientation. He falls for Tae Yi but has a hard time reading Tae Yi's cues at first.
Seo Do Yoon 🎶He is in the second couple. He likes the other boy in the second couple. He hides his sexual identity and makes gay jokes to test the waters with his classmates. Do Yoon asks his crush Joo Ha, the bully, to choose not to be so angry to choose to be true to himself and to trust Do Yoon's feelings for him are not a joke.
Song Joo Ha🎶He has a lot of rage, because he is trying to repress his sexual orientation. He weaponizes sexuality by flirting with boys and then saying he is joking. He doesn't own his feelings and says Do Yoon's feelings for him are unwanted and Se Heon is at at fault for bringing gayness into their school. In the end he tells Do Yoon he can't stand Do Yoon ignoring him, he will deal with anything but not that. He needs Do Yoon to look at him, to see the real him.
Nah stop the fake criticism, indeed just a porn addict at this point 😆 twitter ah cristicm, just days ago people…
We all have access to actual literal porn if we are interested, you do realize that, right. Dramas are not a cheap substitute for porn. I'm laughing at the Korean kiss reference, I can guess which one you are talking about. I rolled my eyes so hard I almost somersaulted when I saw that scene.
When you make a drama you are not supposed to take the viewer out of the story. You are supposed to keep the mood and tone consistent. If you can't do a kiss scene or a more explicit intimate scene well, there are ways around it, and as a last resort it's always better to skip it all together if you are that incompetent. Removing an intimate scene is better than a prudish obviously fake or incoherent attempt that ruins the flow of the drama.
From a western perspective I didn't think FL's mom is just an average Asian mother. Asian culture is more collectivist, the FL's name even means familial piety or love and servitude to the family collective, it's a valid theme. Extreme family dynamics are often portrayed in Asian dramas, because there's a grain of truth in there, it's just taken to the extreme for emphasis to make the story more dramatic.
The grandmother is actually the sane middle in this story. She tells the FL she should be independent (because that's the source of imbalance in her life) but also to lean on family. In direct opposition, she tells ML to open his heart to family (because that's the source of imbalance in his situation), but stand on his own merit also. The grandmother helped everyone in her family, but said it's up to them to them to take care of themselves also, she refused to coddle anyone. Balance is the goal.
The moral of the story is family dependence versus individual independence and how to combine the two. The FL and ML are exact opposites. Yin-yang concept in Chinese philosophy. Yin and yang (closeness and independence in this case) are complementary rather than opposing forces that interact to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the assembled parts. Yin and yang (independence and dependence/closeness) make a person and a relationship successful.
People were complaining about the ML not inheriting the hotel. That's precisely about the yin yang balance in the story. The FL should be independent but equally the ML should yield, should willingly see and choose not to have all the power in the relationship he plans to have with the FL. FL's ex boyfriend has parents who have a relationship where the mother had no independence, she gave everything to the father, the control of her family's business and their personal relationship where he cheated on her. The FL's parents have a relationship where the mother has too much power, the ML's parents had a relationship where the father had too much power. The FL and ML are supposed to find a balance, yin and yang. I think the story is pretty clear on that message.
This is a long answer to why the mom is so darn annoying 😀😄!
I really would like drama to tell me why the father had a falling out with his stepmother (grandma) because if…
FL's father was an adult when the grandma and his father married. The ML was already born and maybe even the FL. He had his own family, the FL's father and grandma didn't live together in the same house or anything, they didn't form a a close relationship to begin with. There wasn't a falling out, they never had more than a cordial relationship ever. The FL got sick when she was a child and they asked grandmother to help her with the hospital bills so FL's father sent her to see the grandmother often as a thank you. That's why the FL and grandmother are close.
I don't think she likes her husband or in-laws much at all. Her marriage was basically a business deal, so she…
This is how I read the situation. Didn't she even say to her mom, how unfair it was that she had to marry to advance the family business, and now her brother gets to marry some random nobody like the FL.
Love the leads, but why such poor reviews? Should I watch or no??
It's good. A female lead that wants to stand on her own two feet, and is close to her family and a male lead that's a bit cynical and holds his cards close to his chest. Apparently they will get more involved in each others lives starting episode 11.
FL's father is the grandmothers step-son. ML is her biological grandson. ML's grandfather cheated on her and grandmother got divorced and married FL's grandfather. FL's father is not close with the grandma who is his stepmother. FL and ML are both her grandchildren, only FL is not blood related and the ML is.
It was fine until the last two episodes. That's when the story and pacing fell apart, The acting by the 2 mains was actually good, I've seen a lot of terrible acting in BL these two really did good.
I'm giving this series chance. y'all be babbling nonsense Here like what are you talking about. how could you…
It's more like the production is disrespecting the work of everyone involved by accepting subtitles that are at this level. That's cheapening everyone else's job.
Bad subs aside, I think Pleum is horrible as a person. No wonder all his previous girlfriends dumped him. Like,…
At this point that's the most interesting thing in the show. Why is he like that? Why does Khon like Pleum really, does he not see he is a controlling asshat?
I'm rediscovering my annoyance with "I'll leave first... I'll send you home" etc. Luckily you didn't need to understand much of the dialogue, nothing happened that couldn't have been told better in 15 minutes, it was such a drag. Maybe there will be payoff in later episodes, but for now they are filling the time with a bunch of nothing.
This show has my kind of premise. Here is hoping they do something good with the storyline and not just let it go to waste! No necklaces in episode 2 please, no human necklaces, no pearl necklaces, no nothing.
