Having a sugar daddy is legit, and it is all good to joke, poke fun, and even celebrate that in the pop-culture....but it is a complete no-no when an older person falls for an younger person......even if the younger person actually likes the older person and the older one is very likely to end up being labeled various names like a simp-for-barely legal ones, a vile pedo criminal, or a groomer at the least...ridiculous double standards!
Yes, there usually are power imbalances when people of substantial age difference decide to be in a relationship....and particularly so when one of them has had very little experience of the world given their young age, but these power equations are hardly straight forward and unidirectional.....both older and younger person have their own set of insecurities, hurdles, and pitfalls....so the challenges they face are more nuanced than the b/w narrative on perpetrator-victim would have us believe.
Having said that, I want to clarify and flag that nothing of what I say holds in a situation where abuse takes place, no matter who the perpetrator is, the older or the younger one...my stance is NOT about supporting abuse, or perpetrators of abuse.

Also I do not see how Victor is putting his morals on a backburner by trying to woo Trin...and doing foolish things for love has almost zero correlation with age....people of all ages do that...that's what makes them human, I feel...and we need to let people be and do what they feel strongly for as long as that does not hamper or harm any one else
Also, I don't think there is any allusion at all to an adult person chasing a 'barely legal' person trope in this case...Victor is chasing after Trin and I would say he is very much in his capacity to do that...if he is enough conscious to be thinking of the political landscape of his country and what he needs to do to make it better, I think it actually shows that he has achieved a reasonable amount of maturity as a person........and I do not understand why you, I, or anyone would feel that it is their place to tell him who they 'should' feel attracted to, or try to woo...and also why the other person (Trin), even if they are 10 yrs or much older than that, should have to hold back if they are also attracted to Victor so as to make you, me, or any others completely unrelated to their lives, feel validated.
While the whole thing about Victor growing up and changing as a person, has reasonably strong probability, it does not mean that younger people should stay away from relationships (which never happens anyway) and wait till they are in their 30s to be in relationships...and whether they have a relationship with someone their own age, younger than them or much older than them, is a matter that is best decided by them and the other person(s) that are involved....we need not like, or celebrate it, as long as we don't try to impose our views and let them be, it is alright

I think it is only realistic that there will be several layers of the same person...so I am not at all surprised at Victor's apparently contrasting layers of the revolutionary and the giddy college-goer in love.....I find them to be perfectly natural. But yes, agreed that Trin has no romantic feelings for Victor. Nevertheless, I wish we had more time for this triangle and a slow burn of how things unravel between the three...that would have been delish!!
Also, without meaning to disrespect any of your personal preferences about age gaps and not wanting to see that, I wanted to flag that ageism seems to be so ubiquitous in the BL-watching community (also elsewhere as well?) ...which I find to be quite sad and unnecessary.
While in reality it is quite usual to find partners who are far apart in their years...and I have personally witnessed a few such partnerships that are extremely loving and stable, in ways particularly owing to the age difference between the partners and how one can compliment the other's emotional needs. There off course are others who get toxic, but that is true for all kinds of relationships and not particularly for those that have a substantial age gap between the partners.

Ikr....unless it is from Trin's childhood, which again was unbelievable...like who would dig up 10 year-old clothes for a 'friend' who suddenly comes visiting the village home, late into the night......that was just a meh attempt at poking fun with an unrealistic premise that was absolutely unnecessary and out of the blue...particularly given how thought-through the scenes in this drama seem to be.... 😑
I have been raving about the show...but episode 5 just took my breath away....the art director and colourist know their shit, the frames are plain spectacular...
And then that reflection of the David figurine in the backdrop, as Naran and Krail have the talk about standing up against big enemies, was beyond amazing.....hats off!!

The script, storytelling, and acting so far is proof enough that if China seriously starts making more BLs, and they don't get sucked into the miasma of China's BL-censorship, Thai and Korean BL industry will be under some serious threat!! The script is so much more matured and thought through.

I guess a lot of us feel, and act triggered these days because there's too much hurt, violence, and power struggles all around us to adapt to....that comes out in the conversations that we have with strangers at times, where we want to fiercely protect our beliefs, perceptions and takes....I don't think the countering is personal at all...so why not be a tad more tolerant to each other, right?
