Just finished this show on US Netflix. I had low expectations going in but the show surprised me with its relatively realistic look at serious issues around suicide, guilt, public shaming and eating disorders. OK, it probably took on too many issues, but at least the writers seemed to take more than just a casual approach to them. As for the complaints about the BL story line, it kept to a more realistic view of what happens when a gay character falls in love with his straight best friend. And it was handled with sensitivity and generosity to both sides. I approve. Terrible name though.
I'm not sure I completely understood everything that was going on in the second half, but this beautifully shot film cast its spell on me. I also love being transported to another place and time totally foreign to me. The actors are both very convincing and there was great chemistry between them. Give it a chance.
I'm just over halfway through and it's getting slowly better with each episode. I like the family aspect of the group and even some of their "cases" are interesting. However the character Kang Le You is so annoying and selfish, it's hard to see why they put up with her so much. I also liked the sisters of Ding Ding, LOL amusing.
Being passive doesn't mean you're weak. Being bullied doesn't mean you're weak either. Bullying is something people…
I'm just giving my reaction to how the character was portrayed. There are definitely some good things about the show, I will try to watch a few more episodes. I'm glad you are enjoying it, appears many people like it.
To be honest, I’m really tired of the passive weak gay character. I just kept thinking “fight back and grow a backbone already”. I will watch a few more episodes to see if it gets better but I’m fed up with the stereotypes. Other shows like SOTUS are much more realistic.
I've gravitated towards Chinese dramas ever since NIF. Though this has none of the great costumes/sets/acting/writing of NIF, it really captures the camaraderie of the main crew and the chemistry of the 2 main leads is brilliant. The opening and closing songs are also fantastic.
I loved both series and they complement each other well. For me NIF2 was much more emotionally affecting especially in the middle part. Usually the middle part can seem like just filler, but not here. The acting was consistently great, especially Liu Hao Ran and Sun Chun, the actor playing the father. Their last scene together was so beautifully acted and written. One of my favorite scenes in all Asian drama.
Seems like this has the potential for a great series, I've been drawn in by the bromance and lead couple. Hoping for something that fulfills my Nirvana in Fire withdrawal.
Quite enjoyable in the first 2 episodes I've seen. The histrionic reaction shots are very amusing. But it also balances the comedy with sad and tender moments.
I watched this for the two male leads and for the most part, it did not disappoint in that respect. Both actors were pretty phenomenal, esp Park Ki Woong. It is probably one of the only times I rooted for the "villain", or at least was very conflicted about his success and failures. However, this series was way too long, and as others have pointed out, very repetitive. It would have worked much better with half the amount of episodes. Also warning, if you are squeamish about torture, don't watch this.
That confrontation scene between Park Bo Gum and Seo In Guk in Hello Monster was so well acted and heart wrenching. Played with the series theme song and you'll get instant water works.
I really loved this film. So well written and acted, never overly melodramatic. I was surprised how much the ending affected me, really sneaks up on you.
I watched all episodes which is a compliment right there. At first I hoped for a BL series but it settled into a fairly compelling and well acted dramedy. The child actor definitely helped in that she wasn’t overly cute and cloying. The two male leads had great chemistry too. I get that some people are angry one couple never panned out, but I actually think it was more realistic to the character. I always felt it was more of a friendship.
