Tbh this series met my unfulfilled expectations from 'zetai BL...'🤠it was funny, cute and with enough drama to hold your attention. The mains were cute, and I usually skip scenes of secondary couples but the pair here really worked! The only negative was that sometimes the cuts are a bit incomprehensible.. like, it takes a minute to realise where in the timeline you are.. but otherwise a solid show!
Visuals were so good and the characters individually had a lot of potential, but it really fell flat..
1. the plot was so pointless! Don't get me wrong, I love a good rom-com full of cliches and cringe; i'm not at all highbrow when it comes to romance, but seriously, all this drama just ended up feeling so forced. That model/manager thing? The fiance? What was the point... 2. The characters also went totally OOC every now and then coz, 'plot'... 3. Nosedive. Choi Jun's character was soo dreamy in the first couple of episodes but as it progresses he gets so wishy-washy, ugh. Lee Jun's character went from adorable in the beginning to annoying by the later episodes.. 4. The whole fragrance thing had so much potential, but was sorely underutilized. The office stuff could have been interesting but my god was it all so boring. Sidenote:; it just didn't sit right with me with the whole fiance situation.. Like, either don't make out with an engaged guy making 'but i don't really love her' excuses, or else fully commit to an adultery tag with nuance. Overall, good for killing time. Visuals and Chemistry on point.
well, I mean, the death game genre is fairly popular in Japanese media, whether anime, manga, movies or drama, and has been for decades. Any number of shows over the years (including AiB) far surpasses squid game (at least for me) and frankly I'm surprised at the attention that squid game, which to me is an 'okay' but not 'great' watch is getting.. but hey, kudos to the hallyu wave racking up another success~~
Honestly, i was on the fence about starting this series because the ent industry very very rarely portrays people on the spectrum well. But to my surprise, especially considering how old the show is, they actually did a pretty good job! Not only was the main lead's acting impeccable, but so far as they could, they tried to portray the world through his perception in as representative a manner as possible. There was no overexaggerating his symptoms, or making his behavior the object of ridicule or pity. Ofc it's still a casual, by and large lighthearted, tv show and falls prey to a lot of stereotypes and commercialization, but overall, a good series.
The two leads, their interactions, the other students - this drama has all the makings of a fun, light-hearted series, BUT!! the cases themselves are super heavy!! Right from the first one, the plot involving the crime and victims is more on the... psychologically taxing side. It forms a very... interesting... contrast with the upbeat, playful parts that focuses on the boys. So if you want a purely fun show, i wouldn't recommend this. If you want a more serious show i wouldn't recommend this either, because there actually isn't a lot of proper investigating going on, the leads mostly rely on blind luck to get anywhere, and the plot itself is rather ludicrous - theres no way the entire police force is this incompetent/so utterly callous that they have to rely solely on 2 undergrads to provide all of the analysis + compassion. That being said, this drama still manages to be quite watchable, with a very unique atmosphere, like 2 good, interesting, separate shows curiously mixed together, the plots entwined in unexpected ways.
