just started the 2nd episode and i just want SOMEBODY - preferably the daughter - to END the misogynistic a§shat that is the father. Like, he IRKS me to the CORE.
Intensely, relentlessly drowning in the all-consuming art, this movie perfectly captures the burning passion and steel-cold ambition of the artform. The characters, their r/ships, the romance - everything plays second fiddle, everything is subservient to the supreme mistress that is Dance. Theres something tragic yet indulgent in every frame, almost Maugham-esque storyline told with stunning cinematography and opulent palette, in brooding silence and sweat, this movie is a must-watch.
If you were expecting a smexy enemies to lovers rivalry, or a fun 'BL' trope, this is not it. While staying completely- almost painfully- repressed, the plot nevertheless pushes you out of any comfort zone and threatens to drown you in a world of imperfect, obsessed characters where romance is unconsciously just the means to an end.. like if the Black Swan was understated and tightly wound but ever so slightly fraying at the edges
It's a rare feat to make the viewers unironically hate and despise the ML of a series especially when most of it is told from his PoV. But this series manages it with Ba Woo. I guess that's something? Lol. Please skip for your scalp health, this will have you pulling your hair out.
2 episodes in and it's actually offensive how infantalised the protag is, the plot is cute but nothing ground breaking, and theres a serious lack of chemistry btw the leads HOWEVER - the phisut brothers are super cute ESPECIALLY LEE like omggg imagine phuwin and txt's soobin had a kid, the series is whatever but he's so cute i can keep watching (also he can act!)
It's an incredibly brave choice of plot to pick, but one thats very important to tell, and has the potential to be a landmark of queer cinema. Even with the powerful and turbulent emotions, it still feels quiet and soft - and just like that overall impression, this feels like a series that is going to subvert a lot of expectations and examine the conflict between religion/upbringing and environment against sexuality, self acceptance and self actualization in a very nuanced, delicate and intelligent manner. Just the trailer has amazing editing and soundtrack, and I'm especially satisfied with the casting, there are very few actors who could give the characters the depth, justice and respect they deserve and gemini and fourth have done a stellar job even in the trailer. And of course, with p'aof directing, theres no question about the quality that will be delivered. On a personal level, this hits so close to home it had me literally crying throughout the pilot, and i'm sure many can relate. I'm immensely grateful for them for picking this story to tell
Yes i love the series but like,, you could grow a whole sun wukong from that stone and instead u just got 100 years of life, i'm sorry but what a bad deal
I'm just a few episodes in but so far i just absolutely feel really bad for both pleung and mikki? Like.. just consider it from their pov, esp pleung.. Imagine you're dating someone in all good faith, but he's drinking and partying w other girls, sleeping w someone else, not telling you about it; you try to integrate into his life as best you can but his girl friends are being all mean girls on you...not to mention one of his girl 'friends' is constantly obvs flirting w him and he tells you 'oh don't worry about it she's just like that'... like, honest to God, i hate how badly BL series depict women but this one is just cruel.. she didnt know about the shrimp thing but she tries her best to take care of her hurt bf... Idk if there will be some revelation later that will justify this, but at this point, im mad on her behalf.
I also hate how the 2 girls treated mikki in the beginning esp making fun of her while she was being chewed out by her bf - like, i'd have done more than break a phone. I'm not justifying her actions subsequently but my god. also that guy is so awful.
The forced hatred is soo ugly and misogynistic And it's not helping that the translators of the version i found are /really/ buying in to the hate train
Edit: couple more episodes in, and leaving aside this ******** of a protag ('what if someone likes 2 ppl at once'??!?) i just support pleung even more now because what the hell is wrong with yihwa?!?! If your friend is dating someone u don't like and u have legitimate concerns, have a serious convo w yr friend about it then shuttup omg. Despite the translators' absolutely infuriating habit of calling everyone and everything b*tch, she's the one acting 'bgtchy' here. The translators comments also make me think it's going to be revealed in the end that pleung was behind them getting beaten up and honestly go queen because everyone in this is so red flag, they're legit cheating okay
At this point the only 2 things u can be sure of in a gmmtv series is Oishi Tea and Mark Pakin.... and i'm not complaining about one of them (the latter is tastier) 😋
It's an open ending ... Definitely set for season 2, which will frustrate some people. If there is a season 2,…
Ohhh thank you! I don't do well with lavk of closure esp if i'm emotionally invested but this sounds like it's created so well, i might have to steel myself for that discomfort (*꒦ິ³꒦ີ)
Except for Max, legit all the other characters were grating on my nerves.
I understand Kawi had a lot of growing up to do in a very short amount of time given that he was crossing back and forth rather than living through things, but he was so spoilt and full of himself. He just kept taking advantage of the fact that pisaeng liked him, using him to practically cruel extents. Pisaeng was good in the 1st few episodes but then he had his whole spine surgically removed and became a doormat. Pear escaped at first then put herself back into a bad situation and dug herself into worse, except the final timeline Kwan just let herself get taken advantage of Not was just a colossal as§
Given this set of characters that seem unsympathetic, the execution of this series, both in front and behind the camera, was masterfully done, so i kept watching through the whole thing. Ofc the eyecandy helped 🤭
It's so shocking for a gmm show but oishi tea only debuted in episode two!!!!
Apart from that, it's a super sweet and wholesome series some parts are a bit cringe and theres a few too many 'moments' - get too close and get shy - so it gets slightly repetitive and the tension across the screen fades, but that's just splitting hairs - overall the series is very very good and well worth watching and rewatching
(also is it just me, something about the actor playing kanata is soo yeonjun from txt coded ♡)
