Keep in mind a lot of things are deliberately left not fully explained. We don't have a complete explanation of…
Okay, so they explain more later about the seal?
Haha, so it sounds like the cultural and genre nods are lost on me. π It does happen now and then when I watch Cdramas, more than when I watch Kdramas. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. π
How much exposure to wuxia and what kind of exposure to it is required for the references to make sense, do you think?
And how about Bao Bao--do they ever explain about her in this season or in the next? It's kind of maddening how much they show us about her abilities and how little it tells us at the same time. They're really milking the mystery (she actually reminds me a lot of Wu Zhu in JoL--definitely giving cyborg/genetically modified and/or alien vibes--at least those are the places my brain goes to π ).
What the heck is happening at the end of Episode 12 with Chulan's seal? What even is a seal?
I've heard it mentioned in earlier episodes and it would light up under his skin and move around (it looked like a turtle? Or was that something else?), but none of the ways it was talked about or mentioned or shown gave me any clarity, and the scene in Episode 12 just left me scratching my head wondering what on earth was going on (because it also implied he was flashing everyone at the same time and the only reason he's showing his seal is because he's drunk). πΆ
Sometimes Cdramas are SO weird.
(I'm also waiting for Zhang Chulan to... improve? Everyone's (in the drama) making a fuss about him and I have yet to see why; and I still don't feel like I've seen the real Chulan because his default mode is goofy, dwerpy doormat).
8.8 for a mediocre drama, this app is unreliable now π
Well, it's currently airing, and those initial scores are never super accurate. Also, dramas on MDL always drop in ratings after they end unless they're objectively stellar and/or super duper beloved.
This is one instance where I agree with those who say JCW did have better chemistry with the FL's mom. π That's…
By chemistry I mean I could feel more sexual tension between the stepmom and ML (I agree she had a weird thing for him, and I think he used it to manipulate her since he knew she was not a great person. He never actually loved her, obviously, but I think he read the room and used it to his advantage). And their scenes had more of the sexual tension I normally see between the leads of a drama. The ML's interactions with the FL were cute and sweet, but that was about it. The FL was definitely mostly a plot device in this drama. The leads were fine, but I mostly enjoyed all of Ji Chang Wook's actions scenes, not the romance. π
This is a very lovely thoughtful review. In the end. I think what frustrates many people is: (A) they couldβve…
True! But I think these frustrating elements can be overlooked or worked past if the big picture is kept in focus. Not that I don't get the annoyance. Hearing people slam it actually helped me calibrate accordingly. π

Thanks for responding. :)

It's one thing to say that about a drama, and something completely different to say it about a whole culture.
And what does it even mean, by the way? π€π€¦ββοΈ
Nope.
Hard pass.
