Everything he said in the end was true. She has caused immense pain to JH over and over again. And she is just not for him, nor is he the one for her. So no, RE is not just a puppy, but an observer who was able to tolerate pain he had, as long as the person he loved was happy. The moment JH was about to suffer - he had to step in.
Basically GC did the same after dumping JH to go and “save” her family by staying with them.

Or as a person who is changing themselves for someone they love, and then after risking all you have seeing someone still running after another person? Adding that you might be clouded to see the clear picture.

Mom heard JH was hurt due to lack of sincerity coming from her exes or seeing JH as a poop. Now there is a guy who cares (especially since its his daughter), but her ego is stronger and she wants to stop it. “So that JH is not uncomfortable”, but she will be if mom acts this way.
Now this attack, both of them were aware that someone is out there. JH knows the murderer has all info already and she doesn’t want to “expose”? Mom knows she is targeted yet always insists on being alone when walking home. Sighhh
