My assumption is that the Chairman was in arranged marriage, so the grandma was only able to accept TK’s mom once the chairman was widow (as better to have “flawed” daughter in law then having son living alone). As thats how conservative societies calculate when something is ok and when not. (Like + and - can not work together, only + and + or - and -).
But as the Chairman is so in love with TK’s mom, they probably met before and had a child. As there is nothing about the father, it makes sense. She probably said to people he is dead in order to stop further questions.
If you look back on some scenes, it always felt like the Chairman wants to say something when they insult him. And then the mom stops him.
It is to “cook the story”, so one day when grandma finds out to have that catharsic moment that people love in soap dramas haha. Especially if she is dying and has a regret, so people feel the justice is served xD

I was worried they will force “happy ending” on Ha Ra, but it wouldn’t be fair. He has made so many decisions on his own and had conclusions without discussing it with her.

I ve been through similar experience, having my hopes up every time we would meet after some time.. but I would end up hurting bcs the other side was never 100% sure with their emotions.
