Though confused about sexuality and experimental opposite sex relationship is very much real and painful for many LGBTQ people but yes, over use of this in BL dramas have reduced this crisis to a trope. As you have already mentioned both P&P have enough conflicts to deal with, the show could do away with not introducing a girl in the mix. But at least they have made the girl character not dramatically evil. Also I enjoyed the fact that they talked among eachother about their mutual feelings.
