I understand you. I think it's important to understand both sides of the coin though. People in Asia address their elders or friends that they hold in a high regard a certain way while people and other places of the world do it in a different way. To be honest, born in eastern Europe, we would call our elders uncle and aunt as well, even if they were strangers as a term of respect. But that would be as far as it would go. My mom actually now even like say a decade ago, started laughing at me and say you're an adult you don't have to say uncle so-and-so or aunt so-and-so anymore you can just call them by their name, but I felt that it was disrespectful still so it took me a while to get used to it And say just their names you know. It's sort of like in America we say Mrs. or Mr. to someone that we don't know or that's older than us or say, sir or ma'am. I think it all depends on how you're raised and whether you have certain manners.

Still it sounds iffy. I know that in eastern or Asian rather countries that's normal even if you care about someone in a romantic sense. I'm watching another drama where a female calls the ML by his last name and then says brother though she is completely in love with him. It's not just the West as in the Americas that find it iffy I was born in Eastern Europe and that sounds iffy to me because our films and series you do not call someone you are romantically involved with brother or sister or cousin or anything of that nature otherwise it looks very very creepy. But that's the way the culture is and it's actually kind of cool if you think about it because different cultures are learning about different cultures.

Your reasoning is very valid. I think that they are both keeping their grief from each other and as we saw on their flashbacks how much they wish things didn't go a certain way. Remember both well everyone thinks he's dying and though right now he is the cure is coming soon.
