What kind of plot is that?!

The most antihero main male lead in Chinese costume drama that I watch so far is Goodbye My Princess but it quite understandable because he is a prince that want to regain power and avenged his family member but what is the main reason for main male lead doing all that to main female lead? Did the author has a sadist fantasy?

Still, I also had watch Thailand dramas aka lakorn with many crazy plot and main male leads too so.....

But I believe 1000% the drama production will do massive change with the abusive and misogynistic part. We are already in year 2022 huhu

I read that Yuan Bing Yan will pair with my favorite actor, Chen Xing Xu in a xianxia romance drama, Bai Ze Ling?

If this is true, based on costume dramas on her projects list, she is really a lucky actress.
I mentioned costume dramas because I watch more Chinese costume dramas since I prefer them more than Chinese modern dramas for romance genre.

The most important thing to produce good drama is the screenwriter and director.
Second would be actors and actresses acting ability.

Even if the plot of original drama or novel are good, bad screenwriter combine with bad director can turn the remake to be a bad drama. But if the screenwriter and director are good, then the drama can be good despite the plot of original drama or novel the new remake adapted from is just average.

There are many actors and actresses with just average acting ability turn to be okay and fine under the good screenwriter and director even when I watch them in other dramas, they act like wood.

There are also many good actors and actresses get waste because the screenwriter and director really annoyed and tired me with their bad plot and bad directing.

So who is the screenwriter of this drama?

The casual clothing for many women in China nowadays were top/shirt/blouse/dress with short pants/skirt and they also wear that since they were children so it not weird if they are some Chinese women especially the young women wearing that but they still are virgin without any kissing experience.

If you want to watch main female lead in Chinese dramas cover from neck to toes, you can watch their costume dramas.

I mean not all women wearing short pants/skirt already had their sexual experiences.

Some women in real life just have usual life because they are busy whether from study life to work life until they don't have time for dating especially in the typical "study hard so you can have good job and gain much money" Asian culture =_=

So it don't bother me much when the naive/shy/innocent poor main female lead don't know how to kiss and stuff but the rich dashing/playboy main male lead in modern dramas that already had ex girlfriend/ex fiancee?

If you are tired with typical dumb main female leads, I can suggest you some dramas. Many of these dramas plot here are not mainly about romance, but has romance as side plot. Still, the main female lead character are better than typical dumb character.

COSTUME DRAMAS:

I need to inform you that although I suggest these dramas to you because I feel that these main female leads character are not just typical dumb main female lead, many one of the main leads (main male lead/main female lead) of these dramas are not virgin.

I inform this because some peoples prefer to watch love story between two virgin adults meaning the first sexual experience of main male lead and main female lead are with each other.

If you want "two virgin adults meet each other" types of romance then you can discard my suggestion for costume dramas except The Imperial Coroner because in those dramas, one of the main lead are not virgin=_=

My opinion:
*If you want to watch main female lead with better character development in Chinese dramas, avoid dramas especially in modern setting that mentioned the main characters as:

genius boy pair with dumb/foolish girl
or
rich man pair with poor woman
with
romance as the dramas main plot

This is because usually they are sign to inform you that the dramas plot will revolve around:

-genius and cold high school guy meet lovestruck clumsy/dumb/foolish high school girl
or
-rich cold domineering main male lead meet clumsy/innocent main female lead that will thaw his heart even sometimes he already has a really gorgeous lady as his fiancée LOL

*Sometimes you also need to branch out to dramas other genre like thriller as main plot because though the romance are just the side plot in those dramas, the main female lead has better characters development than those dramas with romance as the main plot.

It's fine to me if the dramas were in ancient/historical/modern high school setting.
But if it modern dramas, yeah it is weird especially the guy is a CEO/playboy or someone experienced in dating before.

It seem an important requirement for main male lead in Chinese costume dramas especially the xianxia genre, which involve magic, spells, demons, fairies, phoenixes and other mythology creatures, to spit blood after fighting.

But actually it more easier for me to let the scene of "main male lead spit bucket of blood after fighting" to slide in costume dramas rather than "main leads casually flying because at that time, there was no constant rule for gravity law" LOL

I mean if that is xianxia genre with all the mythology and immortal creatures, fine.
But there are many times where even that costume drama's plot don't involve any mythology, immortal creatures, their main male leads still have anti gravity ability haha

I don't think that IP adaptations is a big problem in Chinese entertainment actually.
If the screenwriters, directors and actors & actresses acting of the dramas are good then I believe it won't be a problem even if many of the Chinese dramas are IP adaptations.

I think one of the biggest thing that ruin Chinese drama is the government rule and censorship towards Chinese entertainment industry.

How many Chinese dramas get cut out and edited sometimes until the plot become really disjointed and confusing because of the rules.

The worst news to me is upcoming Chinese costume drama, Novoland: The Princess From Plateau starring by one of my favorite actress, Peng Xiao Ran as main female lead:

Even if there are excellent screenwriters that plan to show their creativity in their drama world whether from their own original script or IP adaptations they still need to be careful because they are tied to the government rules for Chinese entertainment industry.

To be honest, I don't think total freedom is good either.
I don't want to watch actor that was a rapist like Kris Wu romancing actress on screen but still if the actor is only involved in tax evasion like Deng Lun, wasn't it is too much to cancel the supposed upcoming projects that already finished shooting since it also involved many peoples hard work?

It seem there should be different punishment for wrong actions committed by actors and actresses according to the level of their actions.

In this drama, Yang Zi's character 100% will end up with Cheng Yi's character despite with who her character end up with in the original novel.

It is impossible for the producer and director of this drama to cast actor like Cheng Yi as main male lead in their project yet the main actress's character will end up with another actor's character instead since Cheng Yi has established his status as "main male lead" in the Chinese entertainment industry.

Well, unless Cheng Yi is in the drama with a senior actor that far more popular than him.

Whether this drama end with happy ending or sad ending is the main question but I think it will be happy ending since Cheng Yi's character was mentioned as the "emperor" or something like that in the trailer and I remember reading in a website or somewhere that the scene in this drama main poster was their wedding scene (?) or something like that.

Maybe Yang Zi's character become his empress in the end? I just guess LOL

I wish to see Zhao Lu Si with Cheng Yi or Chen Xing Xu in Chinese costume drama.
Not only both of them are actors with good acting skill, they also look so handsome in Chinese costumes clothes!

I believe Zhao Lu Si can create good chemistry with them!
