The general consensus is that he faked it. He couldn't really remember her but faked it.
Considering the screenwriter is Asian, it’s not hard to accept this as the most likely outcome. But still, there are things one simply can’t accept without confirmation.
I have watched Stanger(in fact my favourite) the protagonist in FOE is not a psychopath but I can't exactly tell you what's wrong with him(maybe he has alxythimia too- cause he is/was also devoid of emotions.

He didn't look lost and he looped everytime with no memory. It did not look like he was looking for answers ...like the school boy or anyone for that matter.

Why did he fake tho? Just because a women claims to be your gf(well she was) you have to accept it . That's question has been bothering me so much ... I am pretty much satisfied with whatever happened with others but this ....not to mention their story line was so freaking tragic...
And this is a lesson on Do Not Kill Yourself Over A Man.
It honestly hurts, no matter how you look at it. Whether he remembered her or not, whether he had the will or not, they deserved so much more than what they went through.
What’s even more painful is that we won’t get to know anything about them beyond that.
