The fact he even asked her in previous episodes to go away from delegations and await for him at his residency before having a full grasp of ruyi and marquis relationship already shows he is insecure about their relationship. Which he has every right to be because they arent on solid ground yet and he is just realising he is way in deep emotionally invested while Ruyi isn't yet and she can still have a more rational approach in comparison to him.
Basically he is scared he will lose it all. And he clearly wants it to elope with ruyi have a kid and live peacefully in the mountains. But with the recent developments he will have a breakdown soon causing nothing is going as to plan.
I don't mind the marquis character being obsessed with his master. However his villain can't be toned down just to give her a pass. I need both obssessive and smart villain in him.
Also i love how Ning Youzhou is clearly a petty jealous insecure man. Historical main leads rarely get this kind of characterization being fleshed out in such a manner.
