It's Wu Zhi Qi existing in different time periods. He has been alive for all those years.
It's like the Infinity Stones being present in different timelines and that is what we are seeing in the illusion.
His storlyline started a bit before Man Man and Di Zhu's so he went to them to get the Star Stone. So that it could help his people fight the plague or some deadly disease I guess due to which people were dying fast. That attempt failed.
So years later in the timeline of Li Jie, he found the Star Stone but because he misused the Petrification Spell, his people became stone and also the Star Stone was shown to explode.
Fast forward years later he tries to find the Star Stone again in the timeline of WuWu pair. Now here I'm assuming that in the past even this must have failed, that is why in the real timeline he is still trying to revive the Star Stone.
Did they cut Joseph Zeng and Chen Duling scenes? They are barely there.I only tried watching for this couple.

Majority of the other actors that you may want can't even act as good as Tian Jia Rui. He looks good and his acting skills are what made him famous from his debut role in My Journey to You and further in Fangs of Fortune. There you can see his different looks and charisma and aura.
The same in this drama as well. He is playing so many different roles yet can differentiate so well between them and each of his roles here look absolutely gorgeous and charismatic.
