I liked this one quite a lot. Different and unique story. Thought the acting was strong. Moon Ji Yong is incredibly charismatic.
At first I had trouble wrapping my head around it... but then I just went with the fantasy of it. I was glad they didn't romanticize the ending and kept the tragedy as it was. It would have been too schmaltzy otherwise.
But the actual ending confused me to no end. I'm not certain how you go back 15 years twice. When he exited the building, it was Jan 30, 2022. That's why he couldn't get back into the building. The friend shows up and gives him the "will". But then he shows up again a few days earlier, as in the first episode. I know I'm missing something, but I just can't figure it out.
It wasn't the most compelling series ever. But I enjoyed it and would recommend it.
Boy Wayu Films certainly love the darker, bleaker side in their stories. This was well done. Well-acted. One of their better productions. An interesting and unique format, with the documentary style. As with many of their films, the scripting was repetitive with characters saying basically the same lines over and over with only the slightest variation. Was even more evident here where it was just one character being interviewed at a time. Was interesting and had some insights. I would have loved to hear more stories from different "entertainers" and more clients - but that's for another movie.
A beautiful production. Highly skilled acting. Strong concept. Complex characters (although Mom could have used a bit more dimension). No easy answers. The best ending you could have hoped for given the situation and characters.
But Incredibly repetitive script. Why say it once when you can say it 4 times? Not a single revelation for me. I knew everything that was "revealed" from the very start. And after all these long monologues and endless blabbering, so little results from it. This would have been a highly impactful 2 hour movie. But at 6 hours+ it was a slog. I kept watching because it was unique and unusual. I've watched enough BL & LGBTQ+ programming and so much of it is exactly the same with different actors. At least this attempted something different.
In the end, its soap opera roots took over. Overwrought, drawn out, cliches that try to pass themselves off as new philosophical thought. Even some of the thematic imagery became too cloying for me. The glass globe. A bridge called Wang. The 52 hertz whale. Please. Less is more, people.
All in all, just a middling effort for me. Applause for the attempt. Snores for the execution.
Not quite sure about this one yet. The manga aspects (subtitles/sfx/freeze frames) turned me off at first, but then I embraced that this is the world our lead lives in and how he sees life around him. Was having troubles with Mamochii's character, until the big reveal in the last scene. Now I see him in a different light. I do like the attention to depression and self-esteem. I'll try a few more eps and see how it goes. I have a feeling I'll come around, as I usually go crazy for the JDramas. Fingers crossed.
This was a middling series for me. Great premise that was mostly forgotten or just given minimal attention. Major HUGE plot holes that the writers just didn't feel the need to explain. I would say poor world-building, but that would imply they actually tried to build a world. Missed opportunities abound.
This was all about the fluff, the cheesy, sweet, BL moments. So many of them strung together that it got a bit overwhelming for me. About halfway through the series I had to start watching at 1.5x speed because it was all just the same moments rehashed over and over. Has many of the problems a lot of BL still have (like boyfriends who sleep together still being shocked when their partner tries to kiss them).
The leads are both likeable. Jimmy better than Sea, but both suffer because they just don't have the material to work with. I found ALL of the secondary characters and actors to be great fun, strong acting, good characters and great friends. The friendships were what really got me through this series.
I wish they had made this either a straight BL with no sci-fi elements or REALLY concentrated on the sci-fi. But what we're left with was just okay. I wouldn't actually recommend it except to die-hard BL fans. I'm one of those that watch just about every BL I can get my hands on, and drop about 1 in 3 shows. I did finish this one (at high speed), so I guess that puts it somewhere in the middle. But I won't watch again.
Can we all agree that Rin is just the girl version of Eiw? Kidding aside, i am so impressed with the acting skills…
I noticed those same facial expressions and they did impress. Santa should grow up to be a major star. He's got it all, the looks, the charisma and the acting talent.
I am going to keep watching this until The Bitter End, I just finished episode 5, but it was all I could do to…
I started off enamored with this "new" take on the genre. But this should have been a 90 minute movie and not 8 hours. They rehash the same arguments/themes/memories over and over. If they had edited it down to 90 minutes I probably would have loved the movie.
