I absolutely hated the thai original series Why R U. So in light of that, is this korean version better or worse?
Depends on who you ask, and on what made the Thai version so unappealing to you.
The two series have very different approaches. Aside from the basic premise of a BL novel coming to life, I think it's hard to recognize that they come from the same source material.
This version is lighter and more innocent. For example, I doubt we'll see a Korean counterpart to Fighter's emotional breakdown for Tutor (imo one of the most unforgettable scenes in BL).
I expected this version to skimp on the intimacy but it has proved me wrong so far, at least when it comes to kissing.
Thought it was unrealistic but wow it’s very interesting and engaging. Sunwoo and yoogyeom’s kiss was 🫰🦋
From the preview last week I expected a "camera angle" kiss, and at first that's what it looked like, but it also seemed that Yookyeom did that within the actual story, to appease the people at the table while not actually kissing Sunwoo.
Then there was Phase 2, so to speak. You could have knocked me over with a feather. That was hot.
Yookyeom/Sunwoo's story has a poignancy that makes my heart flutter. Sunwoo has low self-esteem while Yookyeom's flaws were put on full display in Episode 4. He was complaining to himself that he has no yearnings or passions, but it seems the reason for that might be that he's been denying them. He certainly doesn't seem to have much yearning or passion for his so-called girlfriend. He keeps ditching her for Sunwoo.
This was cute and sincere. Great chemistry for the main couple too.
This would have to be Mame's most benign series ever, in a good way. And everybody laughs about the McDonalds sponsorship, but you could say that's a breakthrough in itself. Oishi better watch out!
Those lambasting this show for the dubbing are clearly not familiar with the concept. It makes an attempt to revamp…
Well, in fairness, that sounds like a niche genre that most BL fans wouldn't be familiar with. It's certainly beyond ME.
It's like going to a k-pop concert and only to have a country music perform instead. I don't think you can blame people for being confused and disappointed.
Even the basic premise is gross: a twink whose ex abused him hooks up with an insecure control freak who also bullies him. There was nothing in their relationship worth celebrating.
To me Dino always looked like he needed to take a shower and brush his teeth, so the NC scenes were excruciating. I ended up skipping past every one.
I wonder if "Stay With Me" has changed my outlook on non-Chinese BLs where the mains don't kiss.
"Stay With Me" had to tie itself in knots in order to depict a m/m love story that could get past the censors, whereas this Thai production doesn't bother to take advantage of the artist freedom afforded it.
I kept waiting for romance to break out in the final episode, but nope. Just a couple of dudes hanging out. Phooey.
Love how Sailom isn’t taking any of the shit Kang is trying to give him. Despite his money struggles he isn’t…
Kang is a despicable person, actually. It's a mistake for the series to make the character so mean and unprincipled to start with.
He gets outsmarted by a classmate, so he plots to take away his scholarship?
He gets outsmarted again, so he tries to destroy his life with a pedophilia accusation? (What he did there was more than take away Sailom's tutoring business.)
In a real person this would be a severe personality flaw, and honestly I think such a person wouldn't come to his enemy's aid if he saw him getting beat up by a couple of thugs. He'd gleefully take a seat and enjoy the show.
To anyone confused, it helps if you now go back and watch from the beginning. I did that this morning before the new episodes went up and now I can fully appreciate the bravura storytelling that this series is delivering.
Kim An teasing Lee Hyun with his abs was the cutest.
It's a good thing Kang turned a corner in this episode because up until now the tutoring he needed was in how to be a bully. He and his corny crew really couldn't cut it, time after time. They should have started small, maybe by shaking down elementary school kids for their lunch money. 🤡🤡🤡
I honestly wonder if the director was aiming to add a little comedy with their repeated failures to score against Sailom. They're just so hapless.
Nawa acting tough with Guy -- now that kid is downright delusional. For sure that's an indicator that as a second couple they're going to be the (intentional) comic relief.
To me, Perth just can't do "menacing" in a convincing way, so I'm glad that phase of the story is done with. As soon as Kang shifted to compassionate mode the role suddenly fit him like a glove. I think things will go well from here on.

Here's their yearbook group pic: 🤡🤡🤡
