Title Why R U?
Doyeon’s conversation with Sunwoo at the end of Episode 5 could be interpreted to say she’s relying on Yugyeom…
Ok, but I’m not spoiling, I’m speculating :)

Title Why R U? Spoiler
A few days back I said, "besides a few things, every other thing leads to their dating to be fake."But NO..........…
Doyeon’s conversation with Sunwoo at the end of Episode 5 could be interpreted to say she’s relying on Yugyeom to be in a fake relationship with her.

Sunwoo asks her if she likes Yugyeom a lot. (Well, actually, he starts out by asking if she likes “Sunbae” – a Senior – a lot, and because he’s not specific about which Senior, she asks if he means Yugyeom.)

She tells Sunwoo that Yugyeom is “definitely someone I need right now.”

What if the reason she needs him is to keep up the ruse that they’re dating? And it's possible that the reason she asked Sunwoo to clarify which “Sunbae” he was referring to was to make sure Sunwoo wasn’t talking about that other Senior, the one who’s been flirting with her.

Doyeon asks Sunwoo if he’s jealous because he thinks she’s closer to Yugyeom than to him, and she reassures Sunwoo that he’s still #1. What she might mean is: Sunwoo is a closer friend to her than Yugyeom is. The operative word there is “friend”.

I agree that if Doyeon and Yugyeom are in a fake relationship then Yugyeom’s absence at her birthday party wouldn’t matter to her as much. Maybe because for that night, Yugyeom wasn’t “on duty” as her fake boyfriend, so he could do whatever he wanted.

Both couples have amazing chemistry -- different kinds, but amazing. And all four are gorgeous in their own way.

Still, it's a little hard to get past the "crimefighting gang" concept. It's just so ... cute. And this makes it hard to feel any menace in the fights, especially when they're all supposed to be these badass gang members but only one of them manages to have a knife on him, let alone a gun.

Wayne Song's scene-chewing performance as the ruthless rival boss only adds to the festive mood.

I say all this with full affection. I'm enjoying the series a lot!

You have a very low bar set for "disciplined."
Lmao ... I calibrated based on the Oxin Films scale, where a basic GMMTV production would be the equivalent of Gone With The Wind. ^_^

Title Why R U?
I've started to see a bit of a pattern with the voice dubbing.

It occurs in many of the scenes filmed outdoors and in the acting class.

For the outdoor scenes, I'm wondering if there was simply too much surrounding noise (insects) for the mics to capture the dialog properly.

One example of an outdoor scene that WASN'T dubbed is in Episode 6 at around the 07:30 mark, when Yiwon is at the claw machine trying to win a toy for Jioh.

Starting at 08:30, depending on the camera angle there's either a little bit of insect buzzing or a helluva lot of it.

In the outdoor scenes with dubbed dialog there's still insect noise in the background but it's at a much lower volume. That makes me think that the actors might have spoken the dialog as usual and because of the noise there was a later decision to lower the overall volume in those scenes and have the actors dub their lines.

Not sure why the acting class might have required some dubbing.

The audio thing tho! Is it just me or do some scenes they filmed outside seem... Dubbed? Like there is zero background…
I'm not an expert, but my understanding of Cdramas is that the dubbing is mainly because of the many different dialects in the country. I think there's hundreds of them?

But aside from that I think dubbing happens in all filmed media all over the world. Sometimes issues with the sound aren't found until the editing phase, or during filming a retake isn't feasible or is too expensive. Or in a long take an actor muffs one part of their dialog, or there's unexpected traffic noise etc.

And I remember seeing a BTS of the filming of an NC where the director was coaching the actors through the scene.... lol. So, not only can dialog be dubbed, so can the surrounding audio as well.

The problem with this series, I think, is that they ran into the usual audio issues but took shortcuts to correct them, probably due to costs. I can imagine them simply renting a sound studio and having the actors come in to do the dubbing.

On Our Story The Series Sep 9, 2023
The could turn out to be the most disciplined Oxin Films production yet, which isn't to say the first episode isn't a little messy, but I think the popularity of Fifth and Zeke has led to an actual effort to tell a coherent story. "My Story" had too many scenes where the characters all talked over each other, which to me was a sign that the director was telling the cast just to improvise, script be damned.

I'm surprised that both of the boarding house roommates -- Jason and Joel -- look like they'll be romantically involved with other guys. Jason in particular is a snack, but it looks like he's about to get things thoroughly mixed up for both him and Joel.

The school's dean gets a new PE teacher to lust over (the actor seems as inexperienced as last season's edition) and Kim appears to be headed for a stormy romance with a Korean businessman. I just wonder why Kim would go to a meeting to showcase her clothing line while bringing along her fashion disaster colleague who looks like the pink version of Big Bird with a bad perm.

We might be getting a GL side couple too!

Back at Viki, people have been unusually pounding it Swiftie-like. I watched it and still have no clue why. The…
Viki's subtitle translations are whack. Watching the series over there would be a confusing experience to say the least. People need to watch on iQIYI if possible.

The video for the episodes on Viki also leaves out the on-screen graphics that depict text messages, etc. In some instances the missing text leads to missing subtitles too.

I so badly want Yu-gyeom and Do-yeon dating to be revealed as fake dating... I gravely hope this to happen..........!!!!!!!!!!
I'm starting to think it's all in her head and that Sunwoo also misunderstands, while Yugyeom (the eternal people-pleaser) is at fault for not clarifying things with her.

When Doyeon and Sunwoo are having a beer together she disgruntly refers to her relationship with Yugyeom as a friendship. Then, at the end of Episode 6, as she's leaving Yugyeom's condo the two of them stand several feet apart and don't so much as hug goodbye. They part company the way friends do.

In the first episode, where Yugyeom tells their classmate that he and Doyeon are officially dating, I got the impression that she had put him up to it because the classmate was showing signs that he likes her. I think the real purpose of that within the story was (1) to get Yiwon to mistake Yugyeom as saying that he's in a relationship with a male classmate, thus further confirming Yiwon's fear that the BL novel is coming to life, and (2) for Sunwoo to overhear and also get the wrong idea.

Doyeon also seemed less upset than you'd expect when Yugyeom didn't show up for her birthday party. Sure, she was full of it when she said she didn't know where he was and didn't care, but if they were an official couple I think she'd have been a lot more insistent that he be there.

They seem to rely heavily on dubbing. From what I understand, dubbing can happen because of surrounding noise, like nearby crowds or traffic, or if the actors screw up their lines or can't be heard due to mic issues.

It's too bad the acoustic for the dubbed dialog is so different from when it's recorded live, because as much as I love the series this can be quite distracting.

For people just now coming to this series, I repeat: Watch on iQIYI if you can.

Viki's versions of the episodes does not include on-screen text for messages, etc., and the subtitle translations are sometimes completely off.

My god... that opening scene of Episode 9. I wasn't ready for the emotional wallop. Whoever wrote this is a poet.

And who better to deliver that dialog? Maru the puppy is one of the best BL characters of all time. The actor did a superb job with both the humor and the romance.

The MDL score has to be the most off-kilter of any I've seen. I hope more people will discover this series and over time raise its rating into the 8's where it belongs.

They're too busy crossing tropes off the list.
