For me one of the genius touches of the series is the way in which Noey first expresses to Thi that he has crossed a threshold with him, at the end of Episode 7.
"The more I get to know you, I think you are the nice one."
In a series like this what we usually get is one person confessing "I like you" to the other, and the other person being put on the spot to either accept or reject the confession, whereas with the words "I think you are the nice one" Noey acknowledges that he has some work to do before he can win Thi over completely. It puts less pressure on Thi than if Noey had said the usual "I like you" while also setting the right tone for what follows, which is a courtship of sweetness and nice things.
I honestly couldn't get that line of dialog out of my head after I heard it. It impressed me so much.
I REALLY need the wtiters to include dialogue that the 'brothers' are not blood related in this series. Cause…
I know what you mean about the brothers. The two boys don't resemble each other, making it unlikely they're blood brothers, but I had to read the series synopsis here in order to find out if they are half-brothers, stepbrothers, or just two guys who've been friends so long that they consider themselves brothers.
As it is, their situation is similar to the one in the series "Brothers", which is a better series than most people think and is certainly better than this one.
I was complaining that this week's My School President was bad. "Bad" is apparenly relative. On a scale where…
And, like MSP, his show's high school has a music club that's about to be disbanded and is at the mercy of the school president in order to get their instruments.
If MSP now introduces a BDSM subplot with Tinn taking Gun through the paces then everything will have come full circle. πππ
When Ben and Chopper discuss Ben's interest in Nueng, Ben seems to forget that he threw Nueng under the bus by saying Nueng initiated their kiss. Ganging up on poor An for selling the photo won't change that.
Ben's sudden change to liking Chopper could be partly motivated by the realization that after what Ben did, all hope for him and Nueng is now lost ... but I don't think the writers had that in mind. My guess is they just wanted to jumpstart the Chopper-Ben relationship so they just had Ben randomly switch teams.
How does this series rate an 8.2 while "I Will Knock You" gets an 8.0 ?
That plot with Ink was a total turnoff. All I keep thinking is when is he going to dump her, or please dump her…
I think we will soon see the last of Ink ... my guess is that instead we'll be witnessing Burger's sexual awakening. Now that he has upset King with his attempt at matchmaking he'll come to realize that King's attention means a lot to him.
That comment about King's "cute smile" didn't come out of nowhere haha.
I did a quick calculation to determine the "frequency of Hia" for this series. (In case you were unaware, this statistic is a new area of research in Thai drama physics.)
Under study for "Between Us" was the frequency of occurrence of the word "Hia" in character dialog, specifically Team's.
Let's see how we can arrive at a number.
For this series, Win and Team were "an item" for, say, 9 out of 12 episodes. This means that during the first three episodes Team was less inclined to address Tin as Hia, but for those other 9 the floodgates were open.
Now, let's say that in those eight episodes, the scenes where the two of them had a conversation took up roughly 30% of screen time. (A conservative estimate, I think.)
Their other time together was spent when they were sleeping, or when they were in scenes together but didn't converse, like at the pool. And, of course, there was the screen time given to the other storylines.
With this as a starting point I tried counting the number of times per minute Team said "Hia" when he and Win were having a conversation. I came up with three as a reasonable estimate.
This means that the possible number of times we heard the word "Hia" during the entire series was:
This is a lowball number, as I said earlier, but nonetheless by the final scene of the final episode my ears were bleeding.
It would be interesting to get stats for the other "Hia" series that ended this week, "Cutie Pie 2," but I found that one too excruciating to watch. There's only so much facial smoothing a pair of eyes can stand.
I urge Thai screenwriters to retire this word for the rest of the year, then use it sparingly beginning in 2024.
