I don't quite understand why the hooded man chose to kill him off. I know they needed a scapegoat for the stolen…
agree. But waiting for further development. If nothing comes to fill that apparent inconsistency, I will, regretfully, add it to some minor ones, which will prevent me giving the drama top marks :(, despite I generally like it, and appreciate much of acting and cinematography and the incentive to look up culture and places of Tang dynasty. Actors/actresses said they discussed and even brought ideas, so why leave such a bizarre turn of events, when the story seemed logical before. Was it a problem of miscommunication with the team of scriptwriters who expanded on the original book?
About the characters and cast (section 4 to 6 in my Companion piece, where you can find a character from their screenshots as they first appeared when they were named in the drama ;some, like elder Sun and elder Zhou had already appeared, but were not named/identifiable yet in previous episodes) : https://kisskh.at/discussions/zhu-lian-yu-mu/131556-the-story-of-pearl-girl-companion-piece
I checked the 77 actors list + the 78 actors list on Baidu to build the illustrated character directory (by order of appearance)
According to my count, there are still 8-10 characters missing (one of which I remembered when checking end credits, was in "flashbacks" earlier, but I did not tally him in then, so I will add him in later after hunting the episode and taking screenshot :) ) I suspect I overlooked a few others because they did not appear identifiably, but were "lost" in the background when I was less attentive. Here are the ones I'd like to find or have not appeared yet 😎 :
I don't know where a lot of actors with no identifiable character name came from on MDL, I didn't spot their names even on the 294 additional "guest cast" in end credits. So, I was on the lookout to recognize facially Smile Wei or Shī Yǔ 施羽 or Winnie Yu, but could not find them in the past 34 episodes. Except for Huáng Jùnpéng 黄俊鹏 who I think could be "Ying Peng" number 74, black dragon bandit luring YZJ into a trap.
Now if someone spotted those, or any of the 18 "mysterious ones" on MDL list, and can point to episode 🤔, I'd be happy if they inform about it, in the comments to the Companion piece, for completion. Below is the list of these 18:
If you want to find actors and actresses who might have been overlooked on the MDL drama cast, you can check the…
Thanks for liking!
There are some characters/cast I still hope to find for completion: am posting the list in a more recent comment, for the hawks eyes who know/perhaps noticed them, if I overlooked any ;)
Garuda was arrested.. I remember hearing one line about it. Obviously he was released later bcoz everything fell…
yes yes yes but do you think it was elder Zheng who summoned Li Kui to shoot his son? I doubt it, and find it also unlikely that it could be YZQ doing that, since Li Kui was his arch enemy. So what was the real motivation is still mysterious. Some say Yuchi Wuyi might be a double faced friend/enemy (possible leader of Black dragon bandits) but he would be far from his turf there, and how does that killing benefit him ?
i.e. Section 5: Number 15 -Dù Míng was played by Gào Chén, for whom there is no more info, but he is among those listed in end credits.

that was one mighty arrow, the shaft looked like the stick of a broom!!! Li Kui (but was it YZJ's arch enemy, there?) did not even use a crossbow, and shot it from rooftop, appearing in a fleeting moment, shorter than that devoted to his hawk! Like a demon who magically knew how to get there and vanish immediately, once the deed was done, but why shoot a Zheng family member, if the Zheng were allied with Black dragon bandits (summoned by same ZZH to get rid of YZJ in earlier "forest hut" episode)?
Nov 19th-Pearl ranks 33 in Movie DBs Top 100 (tv shows)
oops, its "rival" LGiEF is down there as 96! but these audiences seem to prefer modern times Chinese dramas since they had Romance in the Alley as 24 (perhaps I'll go give it a peek too now, after recording director Xie Ze interview excerpts and links in the "companion piece" 😅 I also added some more stuff about pearls, the impact on tourists going to make pearl hairpins in Hepu and such, as usual lavishly illustrated with pictures and gif linked to their sources. https://kisskh.at/discussions/zhu-lian-yu-mu/131556-the-story-of-pearl-girl-companion-piece)
This drama was not a small production : I have been checking the 77/78 characters with end credits of episodes and Baidu "complete list"; there are even more with 294 listed as guest actors (but just names, these are the anonymous for most, who walked the set or had bits roles).
Now, I am both looking forward to and slightly uneasy about how this will end ; wishing to trust LYN that it will be sweet enough to get cavities (and hoping his quip about being abducted by aliens was just his doubling back for perhaps having spoiled the ending and disappointed those who -are there any?- wish to see him go off again into the great beyond like in AJTL)
U will only glare at him for max 5-6 episodes. Definitely not after that. He seems mean to FL. U will find it…
Ah: that was in the beginning, when shipowner Yan was just the heartless devil having come across a "pebble in his shoes" which did not shine like a gem or pearl yet. (On ships, that sort of punishments could certainly exist back in those days, as the English chanty 'what shall we do with the drunken sailor' reminds.)

Well as a c-drama trope, it all goes back to the Meteor Garden quip : "if apologies were enough, why would we need the police?" Anyway, dramas should not be construed as a moral blueprint for present day 'civilized behavior' specific models. Just like some people in far away Pacific islands eating fruit bats as a traditional delicacy should not be looked at with disgust and accused of spreading germs (they did not). Actually, heartfelt apologies are not that common, even in the real world, even when parents try to teach children on playgrounds, to make an end to strife through apologies. It does not always work and is not always done. If you need that sort of portrayal in drama, have a peek at Our Days the modern drama just finished airing on WeTV. There are interesting moments with children being taught to apologize when the moms refuse to, out of principle or power play, very realistic, until other factors have them at last 'end strife'. Dragging in public opinion to force apologies is also a subject there.
need to grab a bite, now 😂 😂 😂
