It is a family oriented drama. No wars or much gore. Basically played it safe with the script. Some things were…
Ci Sha. His character was a Marquis (Lu Jiaxue 陆嘉学, "Lu Houjue" 陆侯爵) The Duke was Yining's bloodline father Duke Ying 英国公 "Ying Gonggong" (from the house of Wei : aka Wei Ling 魏凌 )
SML actor did his job well, thoroughly convincing us he was an obsessed madman. Very handsome guy though. He caught…
Yes... I took note of Ci Sha in that other drama too. He played the star-crossed character Mei Xing who disregarded the girl who loved him till death, and was forever unable to express his infatuation for the one he'd first noticed in a crowd and felt poetical affinity with later. He had to keep a respectful distance to Shi Yi, as the friend of Zhousheng Cheng so was never a rival there. Ci Sha's role as rival in A Date With The Future was much paler than here: Lu JiaXue certainly stood out in this cast.
Happy you found how 🤣 It's true some MDL page features can be slightly opaque before going on the hunt to use them. Also happy you loved The Tale of Rose and LGX's great acting. I am wistful that it will likely be a long time before we get another memorable acting from him since he has decided to take time off to do a PhD. Perhaps he'll switch to directing next...
Thank you! I'm glad to know you enjoy DNAD 😊This type of drama doesn’t tend to appeal much to international…
Yes, I like dramas and movies about Shanghai, since forming my cinema tastes around the "classic" movies of the 1930s-1940s with past icons like Zhou Xuan, Ruan Lingyu, Li Xianglan... so I was looking forward to this drama. Besides which, I am eclectic, watching all sorts of series and movies, old, newly airing, short, long, wuxia, xianxia, xuanhuan, time travel, science fiction, torrid romance, police thrillers, slice of life, historical from Han to revolutionary patriotism (I also enjoyed War of Faith which is set just a little earlier than DNAD!), spy or triad gangster stories, youth and college, medical and catastrophe... DNAD had a good sampling of the ingredients, except for the Hanfu swords and sorcery, or torrid romance, but since we had had enough of it in former HL, it did not feel too much like a loss than Jin Yan (Xing Fei) and Xiaoman (Yao Siwei) did not develop tender feelings for the impish Lin Shaobai. DNAD was well filmed, well paced, well performed, with a thrilling story tempered by some lighter moments. But of course some foreign audiences or people siding with separatism wouldn't like that story for ideological reasons. Chen Zheyuan brought his easy humor (some of the pigeon scenes were very funny, as were those with the "mothers" and the underworld people). The rest of cast was amazing (Nie Yuan, seen again just after DNAD, in She and Her Girls, an outstanding biographical drama; Sun Yan and the "gallery of villains") : all did very well. It is no wonder that it is still in the top ten for the past six weeks (and #1 twice). Chen Zheyuan fits easily into the sweet lover or costume prince roles, but it is a good thing that he dared to try this different Lin Shaobai role, before tackling the certainly demanding role of Li Zan, which will certainly be "soon" on or screens.
Dawn has already broken for a while on the Birthday, which this year became a long weekend's revel with fireworks, as the birthday was already celebrated with staff in Hengdian, coinciding with the wrap of the latest drama 🥳🎉🍰 I have added a compilation of birthday related documents, pictures and Gifs excerpted from various footage for the ongoing Chen Zheyuan profile pages : https://kisskh.at/discussions/an-ye-yu-li-ming/119875-profile-of-chen-zhe-yuan?pid=3162150&page=2#p3162150
I enjoyed Dark Night and Dawn which is still among the top ten dramas watched even this week ; looking forward to Fated Hearts in 2025 unless we can be blessed with the still in limbo Golden Hairpin before. The footage leaked from FH looks very sweet. I added the snippet of his fond stare at Li Qin (playing Fu Yi Xiao there) as a Gif excerpted from the Weibo video. https://kisskh.at/discussions/an-ye-yu-li-ming/119875-profile-of-chen-zhe-yuan?pid=2762099&page=1#p2762099
Wishing all the yuanbaos here nice bites. The golden guihua flowers still graced the trees with their heavenly perfume a week ago in Suzhou-Nanjing area, despite the typhoon that battered them this year; they can be made into nice cakes with black sesame, rice flour and sugar to savor as last minute autumn snack with tea, before the spooky orange pumpkins roll away into November with Starbucks "pumpkin spice" (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger) lattes and we get skeleton squads asking to choose trick or treats! Of course, as an alternate there's also the all-season varieties of bubble tea or fruit juices to wash down the small "husband cakes" ("authentic Macao specialties") while listening to the fans shouting "laogong" at Chen Zheyuan in the recordings. -- I'm off to slice that funny red dragon fruit since the year is still that one.
Adding it now into the OST columns in Discussions as bonus music spotted !
It is in fact OST from another drama titled Taste of Love (2023) where Wang Yijin is acting, further to singing her song. It is on iQiyi and description for that drama goes : "The drama is adapted from the comic strip "I Was Scammed By the President" which talks about a misunderstanding surrounding popular female idol Tang Su, causing her to disappear from the surface of the entertainment industry. After she gained a crazy 25kg, she had to become the Entertainment company CEO Huangfu Jue's personally nanny through a series of accidents. What she didn't expect was that Huangfu Jue who is face blind is Tang Su's number 1 anti-fan! The two launch into a hilarious and thrilling incidents where love ultimately blooms." 24 episodes x 25' for that other "sweet romance".

Hi Peachey, wondering if you can help with a query about the song sung just before "You Are The One" in ep 17 ,min 12:47. I am unfamiliar with it and my part copy of the beginning lyrics on screen drew a blank. Here are the lyrics I copied from screen : 描给故事里的我们有趣的灵魂目光同样真诚 (there's more). Any idea about that song ? One thing's sure, it is not in the official ost nor a superfamous ballad like the Molihua song sung by "young Xing Zhizhi"
Sorry, it's not familiar to me either. I tried to copy the lyrics on screen and search with them but drew a blank...…
another possibility might be if the guitarist is mentioned in the Baidu (or other page) complete cast, and in the case he is not only an actor but a bona fide singer perhaps his bio note there or following up in search could mention the title unknown song ...from where perhaps a recording might be dug up somewhere. I am a bit tired and busy to go on the hunt there myself: try on your end and if you find the song and singer, you'll be winning the sleuthing button award from MDL 😂😂😂 PS here is the Chinese transcript of the beginning of his song, to help you : 描给故事里的我们有趣的灵魂目光同样真诚
what's the song at ep 17 ,min 12:47? the guy playing
Sorry, it's not familiar to me either. I tried to copy the lyrics on screen and search with them but drew a blank... One thing sure, it's not part of official OST and it's not a super famous song like the molihua song in the scenes with child XZZ...
What have they done to Zhang Yu Xi's eyes. She is so pretty. For heaven sakes please don't make her creepy. This…
You've got a point there. Especially since the drama got postponed. It should have aired late in the summer (but Olympics got in the way) so the lovely Liu Yuning theme song was the only one that came out in time, but too early to really help hype the drama, as I realized after checking with Cho Na who has an updated Liu Yuning playlist here : https://kisskh.at/list/10dJp8a1 Halloween is not a traditional Chinese festival, but China has a knack to use all celebration occasions, so creepy masks etc are also found there as "imported" excuse for sales. And now the too white make-up does look like it is trying to fit for season.
It's confusing yes, because at one time QF claims to be 26 and at another (in ep.11) XZZ says he is 27. But the…
There's again too much landing on screens these days so my attention is flagging a bit here. There are many modern times romcoms including thriller like short episodes Fateful Love (not the fantasy costume one of earlier this year that featured Zhang Han and Xu Zhudan for 40 long episodes - I still have 3-4 to watch to complete that earlier one). Costume dramas will likely steal first place this week with The Rise of Ning, Kill Me Love Me, and now Fangs of Fortune today on iQIYI which has many a-jitter that it could be good in the Love On series (which has had some forgettable dramas this year) or not, so let's hope for the best...
