Well, we do know all series are at basis "soap operas": brand awareness and product placement is always a must there. Of course they cannot be shown trudging along in laymen's clothes from the market or counterfeit stalls there! Or looking too strapped for money either 😂

In ep.9 QF didn't meet Jin Na. She met Luo Xiaoxiao the "big name actress", and XZZ met his sister.

Jin Na agreed to give an autographed picture to QF for Xixi, so she can't be total enemies with FL, but I think they still are not bosom friends but sure rivals :)

Qin Fei was accused of having had an affair with a lawyer in the beginning of the drama, so was fleeing from fans and paparazzi when she mistook XZZ's car for the one her assistant had booked for her.
It is said later that lots of rumors flew about her and other guys, but she appears to have been systematically slandered, her words and pictures distorted, like when she had replied to the awful and jealous Weiwei who ambushed her at the gala. Her prickly "hedgehog" attitude and the fact she took roles as villain in dramas did not help her image. Whatever she'd do, deny, come with other proof, take part in worthy causes... would be interpreted negatively anyway.

Rumors are like mud that sticks even when a court decision beats them down (as happened to some well known actors) . It can even happen if the event had nothing to do with actions from the person targeted. although some scandals are real and more or less direly serious (Kris Wu, Zheng Shuang, Zhao Wei, Fan Bingbing, Deng Lun...), many are just jealousy, over possessiveness by some fans, malicious slander, or mistakes.

C-ent is a special danger field full of traps and minefields that cannot be totally avoided by celebrities... Real life dramas are common, and gossips about them just fill the Net, so one cannot avoid hearing about them. As for taking sides, who knows what is true, what is hype, what is plain slander? Better stay neutral.

It's confusing yes, because at one time QF claims to be 26 and at another (in ep.11) XZZ says he is 27. But the childhood snippets show the girl looking taller than the chubby boy.

I see. I usually skip intros and outros until I've watched at least one episode: they can be misleading or spoilerish, don't you think ?
Anyway, I hope you like the show now that you've come further into it, despite you also chose to watch "too many dramas", lol :)

No real pb : it's all fiction isn't it. Your sentence "if your partner" was awkward and I was wondering if I had misunderstood because I don't put myself in the shoes of drama characters to that extent, that's all. It was clear to you but not immediately to me.

Also, I was quite perplexed (still am) about your question "Have you checked out the doctor camp scene? " wondering if you meant you could not for some reason be up to date with episode 10 of ABL or if you meant another scene.

Recoms are not easy ; those in the specific section reply to "what is similar" so comparisons are of course in order. To me, the storytelling is definitely different between the two dramas after I sampled that other one.

I at first wondered why I could not see Intense Love in your completed list since you liked it enough to recommend it. Of course, I suppose that since you and bbleas (who put the recom in the section above) both joined MDL in 2023, you might have watched it before and just reminisced... I too still need to add to my own list stuff I watched earlier, from before I joined myself. :)

Apart from that, looking at your Profile statement, I am in tune with some of your choices of favorite C-actors and actresses (Chen Zheyuan, Xu Kai, Wu Lei, Zhao Jingmai, Song Yi and Li Yitong) but have different faves as well despite I don't put one above the other. About dramas, my favorites are Reset, Lighter and Princess, Love Like The Galaxy, Hidden Love, FIYS and Arsenal Military Academy, adding Ashes of Love, Joy of Life, The Untamed, A Journey to Love, +now The Tale of Rose, War of Faith, Escape from the trilateral slopes, To The Wonder and She and Her Girls (I also liked a lot Dark Night and Dawn and some other ones but the list of "general fave dramas" would grow too long! and it's off topic anyway for the particular case of ABL although some of the shows I quoted titles of really ought to be mentioned more since they are truly remarkable).

The spider dangling in face thing in IL completely antagonized me. That's not a way to show "love at first sight", and "hit it off right away" : no. It's only ridiculous.

What doctor camp scene? Do you mean the doctors exchange in the disaster area or the reality show moment in ep.10? I am not going on with IL to hunt for a doctor camp scene there ; after the broken heel and bare-feet running home I expect IL is just tropes heaped on without rhyme or reason.

In A Beautiful Lie, things are better glued together. As you wrote, it moves along nicely. I am VIP subscriber on iQiyi (same as for WeTV and Youku where I watch other dramas) so up to date with it. Anyway, even without subscription, those who stray on kiss ought to be able to watch it all the same. I summarized briefly the events of each episode in episode guide, btw.

I don't know why you keep on and on about "so many couples" when at ep.10 we only have one main couple and one secondary one, which does not hog too much screen time anyway. That's pretty ordinary in modern c-dramas. Nothing to write at length about. A third one, maybe antagonist, may appear: it would not be that over numerous either.
The car crash ? when? I think you mistake this for Intense Love stupidity.
ML stopped his car suddenly with no damage to himself or passenger who had become threatening and dragged him to police station.
explosions? There is one before the story starts, explaining how FL got her back injured and had to change career, years before.

I tried to watch a couple of episodes of Intense Love but gave up (perhaps will try again later).
I am OK with A beautiful lie, but the 2020 drama started off in such a ridiculous manner that I could not hang on. I don't really like the FLof Intense Love, just out of bed from head injury chasing the doctor trope, to the point of running through the aisles and reaching for his face at every occasion, even dangling a spider into his face. Or running in the streets bare-feet because she broke a heel.
A beautiful lie : the feelings are less reckless but start and progress nicely and within reason. I prefer to discover Zhang Yuxi here than in the older drama.

Anyway, I have enough on my plate watching The Rise of Ning (thrilling costume drama) aside from this one to which I came for Chen Xingxu who I have been following with pleasure in a handful dramas since The Legend of Condor Heroes.

the stepbrother Lu Xiaocheng 陆小诚 is played by Qiu Enze, 仇恩泽, child actor born on 30th January 2012.
I doubt we'll see much more of him since he "flew home to another city" with Qin Fei's mom and stepdad; but I can't fathom why you think he will have a love interest !

The little girl, Xi Xi, is Ai Rui / Meng Han Xi, a ten year old child actress who already appeared in about 9 or 10 movies and dramas. I added her to cast (hopefully).
Baidu has now the complete cast, with 52 names, in case someone wants to add more ;)

Perhaps it vibes very similarly for you, but then romcoms always have tropes in common.
Besides, we are far from through with this drama, yet.

The 2021 Fall in Love drama with Zhang Jingyi and 2023 The Starry Love were among the dramas that were best remembered before 2024 My Boss light comedy with Zhang Ruonan, A Beautiful Lie is his third drama to be aired this year, since Our Interpreter with Victoria Song aired almost simultaneously with My Boss.
