In the context of the power struggle, Shen Xing is run out of Ai Suo's compound but saved by Ai Suo's "captain" of the orphan guard squad. He stumbles on a wounded rare animal that singles him out as luck-bringer, turning opinions about him completely, and even making Ai Suo somewhat jealous.

Butcher

Following up on the meat freezing idea, Shen Xing helps investigate for Mr. Cai why Ai Suo suddenly decided to set up the business himself instead of agreeing to share the roads with his gang supplier. This will lead to a power shift in Ai Suo's fief.

The puppet show is being staged for a deceased soul, but one who is not yet deceased is trapped in a mine shaft. Shen Xing faints from heat stroke in the mine, but is awarded a small ruby gem by the mine owner, who takes advice about dreams from an old book...

Cutting gems in a well guarded mine

Next job for Shen Xing is to drive a pair or puppet masters for a performance to be held on a distant mine. On reaching the adjacent Gem Market, Shen Xing enrolls the help of a sneaky "know-all" called Wang Anquan, to find the mine owner Wu Haishang who did not answer phone calls...

After the "baptism", starting to "supply water" in Sanbianpo

Shen Xing is providentially rescued by Dan Tuo, Mr. Cai's right-hand man. He will help Dan Tuo take revenge for his brother's death without shooting a gun because "it is against the law" ! But since his own mugshot is now plastered on random walls with a "wanted" price on his head, Shen Xing finds that accepting a job offer from Mr Cai is not the worst thing to do ...

Thrilling start, and end already ?

This episode starts as a working youth drama, and ends with a spectacular cliffhanger ! We are introduced to a few key characters such as Shen Xing, the protagonist, Guo Limin his new friend, Ang Tun who is particularly well suited physically to play the deadly snaky role in what will cause the naive young man to dive into the foreign underworld.

Introduction to the team and the cases

This is fast paced. Past the first technicolor fist fight and the bleak crazy murders in muddy black snow, Officer Shi ZhengBei in the Dongbei, who his colleague call "Shi Ge 师哥 " has a case involving new drugs. The bureau wants to set up a specialized narcotics force . Meanwhile, in the South, Gu Yiran has already identified similar drugs four years earlier. Shi Ge asks some trusted colleagues to join : Chloe Xie as the "Mad Dog Yao" and Zhao Yutong as the muscular forensic expert Ding GuoZhu. The team already looks promising!

Starting on the job

Officer Zheng Bei needs to put in some sweat, literally, to persuade Gu Yiran to join the task force, despite his initial reluctance and instantly catching a cold in the freezing April weather of the Dongbei town. Next, they go on their first undercover operation with a drug dealer that has been identified but not yet busted... Things proceed rapidly, as the task force finds its footing.

A strong beginning for the young author's journey

The prologue with the snow should be kept in mind until the end of the 8 episodes, as it will reveal a deeper meaning than first assumed.The journey from "civilization" to "wilderness outpost" has already a nice range of feelings : frustration, disgust, resolution, courage, humor... The young writer has not many relatives, and struggles to understand her mom's decision to exile herself among strangers with a different culture. She soon finds she has a lot to learn in life.

The journey to the pastures, meeting other nomads

The journey starts with the generosity of Sulitan who orders his son to give the women another horse, so they can follow his caravan to the grasslands. The women will experience wonder, sorrows, and frights and show their resilience. They will also meet other nomads, whose lifestyle is quite different, and a woman clan leader, whose family is linked to Sulitan. Intercommunication again is not totally easy but the new horizons are an eye opener for Wenxiu.

Wenxiu sent in her first story, lost her grandma, and Zhang Feixia denied Tokan's claim

This episode shows the three women's deep connection despite the age gap, between the loved but befuddled grandma, the decisive shopkeeper, and the aspiring author. Wenxiu's mom preferred honesty to covering up for Tokan's claim, although it might have set her at odds again with Sulitan's family.
