Just finished the drama & these are some of my thoughts: 1. Good story but I’m not satisfied with the ending. 2. Li Shande’s naïveté caused a lot of damage to the people who helped him although he had no other choices. 3. Poor Su Liang, helped Li Shande with everything he had but in the end he left heartbroken. What is the message this drama is telling us through Su Liang? 4. Why didn’t they show Amita at the end? I guess she’s the one riding the horse & slayed He Youguang but that’s it? No one even mentioned her till the end? It’s like everyone has a collective amnesia when it comes to Amita. 5. That eunuch Yu & Right Chancellor’s downfall were just mentioned as a passing remark. They could’ve shown Konglang & Yu confronting each other before his death. It would’ve been more impactful. 6. Ping’an & Gou’er’s deaths are SO unnecessary! I was like what on earth?! What was the scriptwriter thinking?!
I would’ve rated it higher if they didn’t screw up the ending like that. It took me a lot of effort to watch this drama. I kept dozing off until maybe after Ep 10 or so coz the comedy & long dialogues didn’t work for me but there were brilliant moments in the drama too. Everyone’s acting was great & the plot itself is interesting. So my ratings go there but a little sad for the ending.
I really like Su Liang’s character. I think the actor played him wonderfully in all aspects to make this character feel like a real person. And he’s one of the first person who believed in Li Shande. What a visionary businessman.
Need some Tang Dynasty knowledge here. Why do they call a woman “Xian Sheng”? Like Ping’an calling Kong Lang “Xian Sheng”? I thought Xian Sheng means Mister.
Yeah its not the intense high speed chase that was Longest Day in Changan. I am enjoying the dialogue its very…
Yup that’s true it’s not Chang’an and I didn’t like the funny dialogues that much. I might be expecting something else but I’ll watch a couple more eps to see if I wanna continue. Thanks.
This show has a lot of witty dialogue and uncover difficult themes of those times, eg. workplace bully, bureaucracy,…
Thanks for the details. I usually am interested in this type of historical dramas but I find it so hard to get into Inspector He, his assistant & Ping An’s conversations. I’ll keep watching for a few more eps and see how it goes for me.
Ahh plz tell me it gets more interesting coz im on Ep 6 and it’s so boring in Lingnan. I really wanna know the story but they talk too much and nothing much happening yet. 😪
It will get worse than what you just mentioned, so maybe not going to be a good watch for you. But honestly, this…
Thanks I do like a good historical drama but I’m not in the mood for a drama that’s too harsh and heavy right now. I think I still wanna watch it but when I’m in a more relaxed state of mind 🙂
I don’t know if I should continue to watch this drama. I loved the aesthetics and I love historical dramas. But I read abt the ML’s action to the FL & I really can’t accept that. Especially when I read that he showed no remorse. Like wtf I’m surprised it didn’t get a huge criticism in China.
Right, so sad. I loved Xiao Tao and General Wei Liang. They were so cute. I knew he was going to die the way they…
Yeah after watching Cdramas for a long time, I knew too. Every time they put time and effort to show you a really lovable character, they’ll kill them off in the cruelest way 😩
Oh there are bad dramas that are really frustratingly bad and then there are the ones that are so bad but so entertaining at the same time. I can’t describe in words what that feels like so you gotta watch to understand. The beginning was good but as the story progresses, you’ll start to see the weaknesses in terms of plot and acting. I’d like to recommend it since I DID enjoy the drama despite it all but I’m also afraid to recommend it in case ppl expected something better but it’s not up to their expectation.
