In Episode 1, the FL and the people around her wanted Prince Li to marry the FL. But from Episode 2 onward, it’s…
I think as an adult she never wanted to marry Prince Li. She was betrothed to him when they were much younger I think, and then things happened and everything changed.
On Ep 41 now. I don’t understand why Hongbing, Xiao Xiao & Chuhe have to live such hard lives on their own as if they have no family support nor any savings. They were all rich kids. Maybe I can explain Hongbing’s situation coz he spent his life savings on his baby & his dad retired then got a stroke so I guess they used up all their savings…but Chu Jiahe didn’t have to sing in a night club & please that sketchy man who looks like a triad boss. She could have a better job. Rich girls those days & their parents would not allow their daughter to take a job like that in Shenzhen. Shenzhen was a dangerous place in the 80s-90s. Xiao Xiao was a rich kid too judging by his music instrument & the clothes he wore when he was a kid. He didn’t have to go do hard labor & lay bricks etc. Why did the drama make them take paths as if they came from poor background? All 3 of them have no family support nor savings? Even Mi Lan got caught for fraud. They can’t have some ordinary life after quitting opera & they just had to go walk the tragic life paths? I don’t get it.
Just watched this movie. Hearing them speak in Teochew dialect reminds me so much of my childhood listening to my grandma, grandaunts and their friends’ conversations. It’s a beautiful story worth-watching(the dialect being the heart of the storytelling) especially if your ancestors came to Southeast Asia from Chaoshan like mine.
Almost missed the last part after credit! Finished the drama finally, and aside from a brief frustration with the 1st arc, the drama in the latter half is very very good!
it’s a pity that many ppl dropped the drama so early on coz I kept watching, and from I think Ep 20 onwards(or when they started investigating Bai Yutang’s brother’s case), the plot just got deeper and deeper and more and more twisted. Every scene became more intense & every episode kept me on the edge. I’ve watched Cdramas non-stop every day for years now and I’d say this is one of the best wuxia dramas made in recent years.
lol I don’t care what war some commenters are having down here but I’m thoroughly enjoying a good wuxia drama here. The fight scenes and many characters from different sects, abandoned temples 😂 are all a lot of fun.
Watched Ep 24. I think Xiao Qiao wasn’t telling the truth but I think that part abt her being tortured was true & it drove her mad. I like Xiao Qiao. She’s wrong but I feel more sorry for her tragic past.
