I disagree that ‘all the blessings for espionage drama went to WoF only’. There are many Republican Era espionage dramas that have high ratings of 8.2-8.5 for eg. like The Disguiser, The Rebel, Killer and Healer. I think it’s still too early to judge this drama. I personally like the pace and acting.

I think a lot of international viewers don’t like Republican Era dramas(generally speaking) and many don’t understand the factions during Republican Era when Japan invaded. It took me watching quite a few of these dramas and reading up on history to understand the 4 factions and I’m still learning. I guess not many ppl are that interested. As for me I like this type of drama and I personally would rate this higher than what it has now.

Gu Yizhong was just a rich kid who got inspired by the Communist ideals. He wasn’t a trained spy so if he’s so experienced from te he get-go then it’s no believable. Give him some time, I think after today’s episodes he will be different.

But then he’s already saved. There’s no need to help anymore. Plus the backstory her dad told about how much she’d do for her bro since childhood, it doesn’t make sense anymore. On the other hand, her husband was tortured & perhaps he couldn’t take it and agreed to become a traitor. If GYZ & dad died, the family inheritance would go to the sister which means him too. And GYZ’s dad hates him. He has reason to hold a grudge.

It's not a crime of course but it does show(to me personally) that MDL users rating is not necessarily reliable when it comes to judging if a drama is good or not. And you're right, I guess ppl here are more into romance and idol dramas.
I like her here much more in season 2 than in Season 1. I guess because her integration to the gang in season…
I heard that Xijun's character development will be enhanced in S3 so that's nice. I remember at the end of S1, quite a lot of ppl didn't like Yingtao & felt that she's an unnecessary character in the drama. I'm glad opinions have changed and I sincerely have confidence that the production will treat the characters fairly judging by how they treated all the smaller characters in all the cases.
