I felt he like neither of them. He doesn’t really want Huang Rong to be married.
But he made a promise so he expected Ouyang Ke to win. That means he is ready to hand her to him. I couldn’t understand why he would do that to his beloved daughter unless it’s like what PeachBlossomgoddess said below.

I don’t remember much details from the 1983 version anymore except Mei Chaofeng was so terrifying her face was burned into my brain.
