I'm so distracted by the fact that the ML voiceover actor always does Xu Kai's characters voice dubs so I completely associate the voice with his face not Allen Rens lol

The scene where she has her black outfit made to match his aesthetic and says she wants to be his sidekick is adorable. Just adorable.

There's nothing bad about it, it's a cute fluffy rom com with pretty aesthetics so I can watch it as a filler drama while I wait for Ancient Love Poetry episodes to drop lol I just had way too high expectations because of the reviews/comments on here. I was hoping for a gamer girl character more like Suzy in Start Up.

Plus I am extra extra patient when Xu Kai is involved lol

I'm not trying to be passive aggressive. I am trying to be clear in my sentiments lest I be misquoted or misinterpreted. There is a difference. And nowhere, absolutely nowhere did I say that others should not watch nor enjoy this drama. I am completely within my rights to question the extremely high rating. Many people come to this site and look for a range of feedback about a drama they are considering watching. This isn't a fan page. It's a site for ratings, reviews and comments. But I understand that my opinion offends and irritates you and you came at me passive aggressively and so want to accuse me of doing the same to you.

Oh I figured that out which is why I finally made the decision to leave my criticism here! I never leave negative /critical comments so I waited until I knew this was what the show was and it wasn't going to evolve lol P.S. in my original comment I believe what I first said was "I don't know if it's the writing, the actress or both" and generally I always assume it's the writing first & foremost. Even the director I believe bares some responsibility because I think they clearly wanted the doe eyed wide eyed long stares etc ..... with that said, a good more experienced actress can find ways to overcome bad writing and communicate unwritten emotions/dynamics. Mostly I just think it's nuts this has the rating it has lol

The idol fans are like a mafia and it's so crazy to me! I RARELY leave negative or critical comments on MDL and I watch a ton of drama's but there was no realistic criticism of this one and that was unusual to me. Usually there is a good balance of comments. I just wanted to leave what I thought was honest feedback. The lead actress in Ancient Love Poetry is fantastic to me, so charming, lovely and interesting and the show is nearly flawless, it stands head and shoulders above this one in depth, quality, character development and fans trashed it simply because of their beauty standards.

Right. That's why I said I think it's the writing first and foremost. She was not given much to work with and what she was given probably is too hard to make much better.

It's not the biting being reasonable under those circumstances, it's the biting in combination with the lack of depth/thought in her overall character. In that situation of course a woman should defend herself. But as presented in the drama her character only has 2 modes : very immature baby girl who acts as the child to Xu Kai or impulsive girl who reacts violently...... it does a disservice to the actual character and makes her hard to find interesting after a certain point. There is just not much IN BETWEEN her ears in the performance presents. I think this is really meant for high schoolers which is fine! I just had hopes it would be a more interesting/dynamic drama between the two main leads and her character would be more complex & interesting. That's all.

YES THANK YOU!!!!! She seriously lacks with her ability to present anything other than a doe eyed stare that half the time looks vacant. She's beautiful but it's very hard to look at her as an "adult" with what *should be* clearly complex thoughts and emotions. It's a mismatch with Xu Kai who can convey so much just in his expressions. She needs much much more work in my opinion. Contrast her with the FL in Ancient Love Poetry who people think isn't beautiful but the actress is extremely charming and much better at carrying the complex role. The FL here just pouts, cry's, stares with her pretty big eyes which is all cute in doses but cannot carry 30 episodes of a drama IMO. I am not dropping because of Xu Kai but this drama could have been much better IMO

Her being inexperienced with professional gaming has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. Her hitting people. Biting someone's arm to the point of leaving teeth marks. Consistently acting dense and having this vacant look on her face. It has nothing to do with the gaming aspect. She literally had a serious boyfriend for years in college. She's not a baby. Her best-friend is much more normal for that age. The actress is beautiful and adorable but there is no DEPTH to her acting. Just lots of vacant doe eyes. Which is fine! She's lovely to look at but the drama lacks emotional depth. It's FINE that many of you disagree!!!! Really!!!!

There's a pretty big difference between an 18 year old and a post college graduate who was in a long term relationship before. So her character would work in the book but it doesn't translate in the drama *in my personal opinion* And it's not about looking childish or being around tall boys. I'm talking about the actual range/depth of her character. Lots of other drama's have been able to pull it off with their female characters. This one just falls short probably because of a combination of the story being written for a teenager not a post college graduate and the actress herself not being experienced enough to bring more to the role.

I'm on episode 20. I've hoped for some growth of the female leads character and am expressing my frustration that there has not been any growth. It's a disservice to the show to have written such a childish character lacking depth. You can be super cute and fluffy and youthful but still have depth and range.

For me Xu Kai carries this drama. They wrote the FL to be a total blockhead. She's written as both an "innocent child" and someone who fights and literally bites people impulsively???? I get that they are supposed to have this mentor master /student relationship but Xu Kai's character looks at her like a 12 year old but also wants her and it makes it all a weird dynamic to me because of how dense she is. This trope is done MANY times and it can be done well! So it's not a matter of her being a rookie in a new environment. Her character lacks depth. The writer doesn't really develop her well enough. She hasn't matured as the drama goes on so this constant thing where Xu Kai's like a "serious dad" to her is wearing thin! Like if you look in her brain there's no one home. I can't figure out if it's simply bad writing of the FL character or the actress just doesn't have much range to act with more depth but this would only be believable if she was playing 17 not 22. And even then, if you've seen 30 still 17 you can play a teenager with lots of range and depth of emotions/thoughts. This actress just doesn't have the experience. Her beautiful face and big lovely eyes are nice to look at but make what should be a very dynamic interesting character...... boring and that's a shame because this drama had lots of potential if some of the characters were more developed.

All I can think of watching this is how much more interesting the "flashback" events are to me and how I wish the show was actually about that storyline and started in that time period and the "present day" stuff was left to the latter half of the drama. The flash back thing just isn't working for me in the way that I wish it would.

Xu Kai is one of the very rare actors who is extremely handsome but also can play both strong and vulnerable. This is a rare combination and I will never understand the people who can hate him.

I really wish they would change this so international viewers also have access. I will die from the thirst as I wait LOL

I've watched a decent amount of Cdrama's and I swear this is the only one I've seen where they actually straight up talk about sex, being horny, and clearly show when the couple have sex (totally PG rated it's just the kissing leading up to it and clothes) but still....... isn't this more racy than most Cdrama's for TV? Are there others?
