For those who have watched the show, which subs are better: the Croton's or VirtualVoyage's (fansub)? Thanks ahead…
Both websites are equally good and I watched both to support the fansubbed and official. The VV site uses more compact and current sentences. Grammar is pretty good for both sites. I hope this helps but watch a little bit of ep 1 of both and compare; see which you prefer
He does have flaws in this one! Low self-esteem and indecisiveness. Much more imperfect than the perfectly composed,…
Yes, the script is usually the problem rather than the acting. I'm trying to understand what you mean when you say you were concerned about him picking such roles? Apart from this and Love 020, I haven't watched him elsewhere. I watched both for the FLs. Do you mean he is better in military or non-romantic roles?
I think I understand now after reading the comments below!

I've not watched it but may give it a miss then. YY's acting in YAMG is more than acceptable and his micro expressions are on point. I wouldn't say I'm a fan but I quite like him in this drama. I'm re-watching for the umpteenth time.
It is very sad and depressing and more so in part 2. I understand what you mean by it is missing something. For…
Not really arguing with your POV, just putting forward some opinions I have come across and also agree with. The lack of fuller backstory for CY can be considered a flaw to some extent but perhaps it was outside the scope of the novel because it was not mentioned there either; a few eps elaborating on this may have improved the story a little but what would it have added. The popularity of JYH not being connected to Dilraba seems unlikely but not impossible, I read that among uni students the character was rated high. The CGI is pretty good for the drama and China leads in the field of online games so there could be a connection between that and the fact that Reba's face has been made into a CGI character. ( I found this amusing) The theme of sacrifice in the drama is something the older gen will understand and that will have resonated with them. I think there was a broad age range for this drama hence it's popularity. It offered something for all to like.
You Are My glory is a drama wholly focused on the main leads but it is modern. Have you watched it?
How many episodes have you watched btw? This great FMV by MK916 might get you in the mood maybe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zQ8ZduB80U&t=1sIf…
You make a fair point, a better screenplay could have only improved the drama. Interesting to I see a good proportion of viewers who understand the plot and love the drama without having read the novel too.

Absolutely, if the novel based screenplay gets the balance right then there is no need to read the novel. However, if you read it you will see that the themes of torture and patricide would not have passed Chinese Censorship and the themes the writers chose to adapt were the best ones given the restrictions. A drama based on a best-selling or popular book is almost guaranteed to do well and in this case the author was very pleased with the screenplay. The drama and the main characters were on top of many indexes for the genre for early part of 2022. The lack of subs may have stalled an equal rise overseas. I'm going to respond to one of your posts above as well lol!

I understand your frustration and agree to some extent but giving more screen time to Xiao Shun Yao doesn't make him dominate the ML role, it just makes his role lengthier than the novel to suit the changes in the screenplay. It also highlights JYH's backstory and provides insight into her character too. Just out of curiosity, would Xiao Shun Yao being introduced as a main role make a difference? Giving support actors more scenes and padded characters is one of the reasons why the drama has been so successful; the support characters are more two-dimensional and not just card-board cut outs resulting in viewers actually caring about what happens to them. They are not just there to prop up and glorify the MCs but an important part of the storyline which was also praised by the viewers. While I don't agree that the MCs are more like support roles, I do agree that a few scenes could have been added to show the build up and intensity of their love for each other. Part 2 does focus more on the mains. Interestingly, JYH's character topped many websites while the drama aired and CY wasn't too far behind. And not because they are traffic stars. Hao Qing and Shunde were some way below the MCs. This is further evidence that the MCs were not overshadowed by the support roles despite great performances by all the cast. At first I was not sure about the different emphasis in the screenplay but once I understood the reasons behind it I can say that the drama is a fair and entertaining as well as exciting adaptation of the novel. A bonus to reading the novel is that it did compensate for the shortcomings in the screenplay and there are definitely some.
