totally agree with your analysis. many still don't consider squid game as a kdrama! for general public kdrama means silly rom coms and they use that to diss kdramas as a whole too but that's a whole different topic. even I started watching kdramas because of true beauty. never had interest in kdramas before but randomly clicked on TB once and got addicted to this world haha. it's objectively not very good compared to many others listed but definitely a good intro to kdramaworld. so was Business proposal. and I agree My Demon would be one too, but it gives me more drama, soap opera vibes than rom com ifykwim. ppl tend to enjoy the TB's & BP's more it seems.

omg what a start!! and THE VISUALS???? Jesus. stellar cast, the leads chemistry is already so good. heck even the cinematography and ost is so good. and damn loving KYJ in a power girl role. lessgooo

this. you have written everything I had to say about the final epi and everything I wanted out of it. their family bonding irrespective of their less then perfect life and finances were one of the best parts of the show. they really should have shown a resolution scene where EG tells his father what he really wants. or maybe he did, or Yi Chan did say to go back and tell his father how he no longer wants to be his trophy. maybe this understanding transferred to the future yi chan too.

also the timeline in more ways than one felt unfamiliar and just detached from the rest of the show. made me wonder would EG really consider this his life? wouldn't it feel even more alien to him? his parents. that life where he was never a part of. and none of his previous life and growing up were a part of.

also someone somehow pls give me more CheongChan scenes plsss! or better yet let hyun wook and eun soo be main leads in another drama 😭 they were perfect together

anyway, viva la vida! long live Twinkling Watermelon and Watermelon Sugar. thanks for making me laugh and cry each episode. Thanks for making me sob through an ep, but leave me with a smile in the end. there's a definite sweet feeling of nostalgia associated with this drama. it's full of life. makes you wanna enjoy your youth too. and shine.

yes to all these. the writer just stopped an inch away from perfection. she could have easily tied up these loose threads instead of going for an all perfect/hea ending.

The drama with the ending was almost perfect. Almost. It could have been more meaningful imo if he went back to his older life. Not a big fan of this all good all perfect chaebol life he went back too. I believe their old life was really good and beautiful too. You don't need to be ultra rich to show that you are successful. minor flaws tho.

but honestly crazy crazy miss to not show CheongAh meeting Yi Chan after the accident. like she promised she would be there for him the way he was for her. One scene was all it needed to make it 10/10. heck, we don't even know what happened to cheong ah after her father's announce of going abroad and not coming back! they just dropped that and left us hanging geez.
Their meeting would have been AMAZING. like imagine that scene where she would be the one person there who gets it. it would have been powerful and heartbreaking. I hope they had shot i and cut down due to time constraint or something and will release it! If somebody is listening, jaebal.

i know I'll break down if I saw my mom being treated like that. that will really be my breaking point, and eun gyeol's scene just hit so hard. i cried for his eomma with him. he is so strong and so wonderfully raised by two precious ppl.

yes and no. don't remember exactly when it becomes more serious, but it does continue that theme of mixing rom com and thriller plot. it does become not as funny as at the start. but around ep 12/13 ig it goes into proper mystery solving and rescue. I remember more screen time for jisoo and the other cops towards the end (although they were the most inept set of cops you would find lol)

I personally liked both aspects of it. the thriller elements were really well done unlike some other romcoms which are essentially thrillers in disguise but half ass both. this drama got it almost right in balancing the two.

again as most dramas in this genre go, it's really fun as long you don't work up your brain too much lol. just keep your disbelief suspended and have a good time haha.
