Guys, how is the novel? Should I read it before the show starts? Will the show follow the novel?
The novel has some explicit scenes with quite a lot of spice. It was a good novel though, so if you don't mind spoilers you could read it. Maybe you might prefer reading it after you watch the drama to compare, but it's all down to personal preference. The show should probably follow the novel but they might remove some factors like Tu Li being Chen Yi's girlfriend and over sexualizing Tu Li's character. They also might remove most of the explicit scenes in the novel because of censorship (there is like an ungodly level of smut).
YES I'm so sat for ts...ahhh!! I've been waiting since goodness knows when and AHH it's finallyyyy coming out....I love both the actors and the novel is good and I'm just really really excited now. I don't think I've been this excited for any drama to air this year except for Love Has Fireworks which is a "lets not mention that" little disappointment so I really hope this one cures my 2026 "not living up to expectation" dramas

it only translates to 'i like you' directly but when actually saying it its meaning is basically equal to 'i love you'. because actually saying i love you (wo ai ni) is lowkey kinda weird to hear...its kind of as weird as saying, idk, like 'i adore you' in english to confess ur love and to just say to your partner on a regular basis like....nobody really uses it in that way. also chinese people don't show their affection through words that much compared to the western world so when saying 'i like you' it means more, you know?

Wei Ruolai is something Wang Yibo portrayed with great feeling Official OST is not too commendable except for Zhou Shen's song which is really good As many have mentioned below, if you ignore the propaganda, its really very good. My favourite period drama I've watched (set in either republican or post cultural revolution/reform era china)

Lowkey just realized but the OST is surprisingly good. Drama itself could have been better but the OST is high tier music; my personal favourites include the one by liu yuning and the other by huangzi hongfan
