Well said.
And indeed, what are we gonna do with this ShenLi post-syndrome? 𤣠I am unsuccessfully trying to rebound with like fifth drama alreadyā¦ š¤£š¤£š¤£
Have you watched Story of Kunning Palace? Itās not a Xianxia, just historical drama, that has very different vibes from ShenLi - it isnāt lighthearted, the main plot feels almost sinister, but there is also slight humor and large number of very strong characters. Kunning also lacks misunderstandings and characters are clever, including side characters and villains. If I needed a rebound and havenāt know Kunning by memory, it would be a perfect choice to overpower my current bias.
I watched this because everything I'd read suggested it would be bad, but after Shen Li everything is bad, so…
Lol, also here after ShenLi... 𤣠The rollercoaster you mentioned is really fitting. I sort of liked the beginning, although I didn't much like FL, then it twisted and turned few times, then it became boring lovey dovey, then suddenly new plot in mortal realm, FL suddenly grew up from the martyr little girl into a woman, then fight again, then boring again... Lol, my head is spinning... š³š¤£
But although I don't like the drama that much and am skipping most of it, even with this style of watching I can say the main idea isn't bad. It's just I feel the drama lacks strong characters, because I am really bored by most of them and their dialogues, so I donāt stay on any scene long enough to actually enjoy the plot.
Surely I'm not the only one who feels like there isn't much of a plot to this story, especially so in the first…
You are not wrong. I am so used to Chinese dramas having slow start, that I usually skip through several first episodes and if the drama doesnāt grip me by episode 10, I drop without bothering to watch those episodes properly. I did the same with this drama, I pretty much skipped through first 5 episodes. By then however the subtle humor gripped me, and I started to like the leads chemistry.
For me, the main plot was about the decision, whether to choose love over duty. Both leads were facing the conflict of doing what is expected of the title of their position, or following their heart. Whole plot was ridden by this, meaning the action scenes and fighting evil was only on sidelines and its only purpose was to show what would be the consequences, if leads abandoned their duties for love. Therefore, the plot may seem slow, because action wasnāt really the focus, but this plot of contemplating duty over love started pretty much in episode 6 and was there the whole time till the end.
I just finished watching this and I must say "what a beautiful drama" even the last episode was so enjoyable to…
Exactly⦠I loved that the ending wasnāt rushed, that it was properly closed and there was even time for a mushy last episode to get a proper closure. So many other Xianxias have ended in such a rush, that there wasnāt even time for explaining what happened in the end, leaving us hanging and wondering if we just witnessed a happy or sad ending. So frustrating.
I'm on episode 10.. but I got to stop awhile and write here! I love the plot, the premise of the whole story but…
I can only say, after this drama I tried to move on by starting Love You Seven Times, where there is also a character of an ancient God, but in this case played by younger actor, his character less serious and more expressive. And although the actor was good looking and talented in acting, I dropped that drama almost instantly - it simply didn't feel right after experiencing Lin Geng Xin in action... š¤£
Without the doubt the best Xianxia I have ever watched. It breaks nearly every annoying stereotype Chinese Xianxias usually have and the main thought leading the plot is quite deep, reaching far beyond a simple love story.
I loved that both leads were wise and secured adults, that had confidence for each other instead of having one annoying misunderstanding after another. ML played his part perfectly, he managed to mix the balanced amount of tranquility and mischievousness to give his character the perfect soul. FL was also excellent, the perfect combination of feistiness and prudence. On top of that, practically all side characters were quite interesting and showing personal growth. There was no annoying overacting and even those for Chinese dramas so typical unreasonable side characters were kept to an absolute minimum.
And despite the main thought of the drama being quite serious, there was subtle humor throughout the whole drama, that was actually quite endearing.
I think the idea was itās supposed to be light humor. I found myself laughing out loud in almost every episode.…
Indeed, it really comes down to what kind of humour you enjoy. Someone can find it funny and enjoyable, other can view it as simply cringe and thus gets bored. :-)
Generally, iQiYi won't sell their most popular dramas to other platforms since they opened their international…
I am aware, and it's only natural, why would they make translations into a minority languages. However that's exactly what brings us back to the issue where this whole thread started - why we fight to have dramas on Viki, if possible, and don't care about other platforms. Because on Viki you can find 20 and more language variants on popular dramas, or you can make new translations yourself, so if I wish to watch a drama with a friend or a family member that struggles with english, Viki is usually my only option. I have tried some youtube auto-translations, but holy moly, they were so bad, that even the most serious drama turned into an absolute comedy, so youtube is a no go as well... š
However I think now with the growing availability of AI language models, we might soon have AI auto translated titles. I think I saw some AI titles on iQiYi already, and it's a really cool concept which I am looking forward to see developing.
i know all those platforms, i am no drama rookie, but they are not an option for my case. their multiple language choices are usually likechineese, korean, thai, malaisian, arabic... and when there is an european language, it's something like spanish. when i need titles in czech, viki and netflix are usually the only options.

but LLTG is on Viki? as well as many other iQiYi dramas? or is this some late info, that changed recently?
I like Viki for that reason, that their "free-labor" subtitle system often result in drama having wide range of subtitles from plenty of languages. I have no problems with English, but when I want to watch something for example with my mom, it becomes a problem and I need titles in my native language. Besides Netflix and Viki I don't know of many other asian drama streaming platforms having multiple language choices.
The historic moment of the korean official teachers union making absolute fools of themselves, showing the whole world how unstable and unproffesional they are, having strong emotial reaction over a TV drama.
I guess I schould then fall into a depression every time a movie about mad scientists hits the streaming platforms, since it's such an offence to my efforts, or a policemen schould feel really discouraged every time there is a new drama about police corruption... š
Why the IQIYI cdrama no longer goes to Viki ? Does anybody have any idea ? I wish to see this drama and "my journey…
you can fill a new drama request form. i don't claim it will be added after that, but it happened to me i filled the request and checked after a half year and the drama was suddenly available on viki.
Btw, anyone else thought Chen Xing Xu is like 40-50yo? I have grown so used to 30yo actors looking like teenagers in Asian dramas, that when I saw actor actually looking his age, I thought he must be at least 40 in real life⦠Color me shocked when I found out he was born the same year as me⦠š š
I wanted to watch this after reading the synopsis, but y'all comments made me drop it... Cause I truly can't stand…
She is learning and growing more mature towards the end. It was really annoying in the first half of the drama, but despite being given this badly scripted character, ZRN is a talented actress and was able to pull it off, so you would come to terms with her in time.
I wouldn't call FL dumb and useless, she was more like really naive and child-like, which was extremely unfitting her being a college graduate ready for serious work, that's why everyone's annoyed with her.
I have at first really disliked FL, because of how naive she was (cāmon, we all know college graduates are people with a steel character and crushed hopes⦠š). However, I have come to terms with it in the second half of the drama, since her character was gradually growing more mature.
Cheng Xing Xu in a suit is a true sight for sore eyes and I really liked his acting, although his character was on verge of being autistic, but ok.
However am I the only one who thinks in more than half of the episodes thereās nothing really happening? Here and there there is some really nicely done important piece of plot, but the rest feels like a filler - characters holding hands and happily bouncing on streets, characters having overly long nowhere leading discussions, characters having meals, both parents from the leads were really annoying and all their inputs were pretty much useless⦠There are episodes that could be skipped entirely and you wonāt miss out on anything on the overall plotā¦
Except for really unfitting FL, there is nothing major wrong with this drama, but I think itās a script material for at most 12 episodes, not 36.
I think you have the blame the writer. The story is plain boring. And the Victoria Song character is written to…
okay, reached ep.8 and I am already bored. I loved the initial AI vs human dispute and hoped they would hold onto that plot. By now the business plot is gone completely and only cliche romance remains. Shame, I saw a lot of potential in this one.
I still think the FL is not at fault thou. She is closed up and distant, true, but the way ML humiliates himself by constantly fawning over her is pathetic and doesn't leave any room for any romance development, because he is just relentlessly chasing after someone who already rejected him.
However now she already decided to prefer her and his career over their love and what is she supposed to say now "hey, you remember how i dumped you because you weren't successful enough? well, now you and i both built our careers and are successful, so let's get back together, ay?"... a perfect gold digger right there, you would really prefer the FL to be this way?
For me the drama is based on choosing priorities (career over love), but still dealing with lingering feelings towards each other in situation, where stupid choices were made, too much happened and way too long time passed to be able repair thing by simply talking or explaining. And however frustrating this might seem, this is life, self-improvement and career should be preferred before love, because only the luckiest ones get that whole-life love dream of every girl. The rest is abandoned and only then finding out they are unable to care for themselves, because they invested their best years into love instead of career and now they have nothing left.
