On Love between Lines Jan 21, 2026
I'm sad this one is over. The drama itself was great! The actors had amazing chemistry, and their relationship buildup felt very natural. There are a few small notes where I feel the drama felt flat. I wish the resolution of Zhi Yu's father's case weren't so anticlimactic. There was so much buildup and anticipation for everything to get resolved so smoothly within half an episode. The fire scene was very cliché and felt out of place in terms of timing. Another piece is how the drama portrayed Pei Zhen as a character when he might be the most pitiful in the story. Despite the abuse he faced from his father, having lost everything in the feud between Zhi Yu and Pei Kang Hua, and realizing the rival he spent his whole life trying to beat never paid any mind to him, Pei Zhen still doesn't get a satisfactory ending. He's left to pick up the pieces of the company on his own and leave. Other than those issues, I personally loved this drama. I'm now trying to figure out what I should watch next because this one will be hard to top

i am loving the chemistry between the leads right now. Zhi Yu is so attentive and that makes so much sense for his character as an architect. i love the bond between the leads and how they show their care for each other. i usually have problems with the ceo x worker trope, but this relationship development has been so natural and beautifully done. one of my favourite things about this drama is seeing how Zhi Yu has been able to develop a fondness for and find a home in the lanes

So I haven't seen anyone say this, but I will be skip-watching this drama when the romance between the leads progresses, mostly because I'm curious about who the killer is. At first, I thought this drama was SO good because it touches on the dark side of K-pop, sasaeng fans, anxiety and PTSD, exploitative contracts, etc. As I continue to watch, I feel the romance tag is so misplaced in this story. Se Na, being a huge fan of Ra Ik (borderline obsessive - she is so deep into this parasocial relationship that she is in love with him), is the problem because this perpetuates the "delusional fan" narrative and promotes the idea that you have a chance with your ultimate bias, even though the story also depicts how these delusional fans can so badly harm the mental health of K-pop idols. Now, Se Na gets away with her behaviour because she never approaches Ra Ik with ulterior motives when he's in a very vulnerable position (and let's be real, she has the MC shield). Ultimately, she's just doing her job. But it still stands that she gains Ra Ik's trust with the knowledge that she has gained from watching him obsessively for years. For example, she knows when he's happy, when he's sad, when he's lying, when he's embarrassed, etc., because she has closely examined his mannerisms and uses this knowledge to treat him as a "friend" rather than as a client. Honestly, the dynamic is only a little bit uncomfortable, but the agenda it pushes is VERY strange.

When she says, "I didn't even know I was the Big Grape then. Even if I had known, why should I be the one who comes crawling back?" I had the BIGGEST smile on my face. Zhuang Xu needed to hear that... He's always been a coward, and he needed to know the reason why XiGuang chose Yusen wasn't because of his background, but because of how open and honest he was about his feelings. XiGuang has always needed a love as loud as her own, but Zhuang Xu could never provide that for her

His reasoning for being mad is because he got into a crash on his way to see her, and she didn't even call him or text him while he was in the hospital. Especially since he's thinking that she was the one that invited him and there's no way that she never found out that he got into an accident

I really enjoy this drama from the plotline to the relationship between the mainleads, but what's getting to me…
It's soft power propaganda. Japan does this with kawaii culture so we forget the historical atrocities they committed. I would go as far as to say all countries use propaganda, it's just about how subtle or overt it's presented, so as long as you can recognize it I don't personally think it's a huge issue

Not sure if you're at this part yet, but in the scene on the Changbai Mountain I KNEW he wasn't going to text Xi Guang. I kept saying, "No way he'll go to her, he's a coward," and I was RIGHT. While Zhuang Xu's coworker said, "If it were me, I would shout her name and go for her", all he was actually able to do was whisper her name from afar. Zhuang Xu is the most insecure, biggest coward, and he needs to deal with his inferiority complex before trying to find love lol

I'm so glad the misunderstanding was resolved, but I feel so bad for both of our leads. Lin Yusen basically ruined his hand for someone he doesn't care about, and Xi Guang just had this huge emotional load dumped on her when the situation was fully out of her control 😭
