Fingers crossed this gets released on Amazon Prime like the other Kishibe Rohan series! 🤞
It will get released on 18th May with a bonus Izumi episode. Though I'm not sure if it will be released on Amazon JP only, or a worldwide release with English subs (probably with a similar caveat of only being available in 150+ countries).
Ayase Haruka did excellent job portraying both characters. But male actor overdid feminine gestures that was uncharacteristic…
I've heard that he studied his female friends' gestures, but I agree with you. Even though some of his gestures match the female lead's (e.g. hailing a taxi), I don't buy that feeling more vulnerable means acting more feminine than usual.
I don't really jive with this drama but then again, this was my second jdrama and I was probably not aware of jdrama tropes yet. I didn't get that this was a fantasy/"soulmate" story with the detective part being secondary, so I treated it like a detective drama.
A reviewer stated that they did not like to see Tsukumo's rather unlikable friends in this movie. I think they can still have a place in the movie, but I don't think the message of the movie gels well with a protagonist who is in debt and is fighting every day not to starve. Sure, his wife did leave him and took their child along, but that's not just because he didn't spend time with them.
It's been a while since I have watched this movie, but I later came to know more about the Rakugo story featured in the movie: Shibahama. The wife of an alcoholic fishmonger safekept a wallet he found, and lied to him about losing it so that he wouldn't squander the money on booze. The fishmonger then quit drinking and became rather hardworking .When the wife told him the truth, he was so grateful that he called her a goddess. While I can now believe why Tsukumo did what he did (he's like the wife in the Shibahama story), I need more convincing that a debt ridden man needs to learn why money isn't everything.
The psychology of this story is so messed up, and typical of many Asian dramas. It’s ridiculous that because…
When I first watched the drama, all I could think of Shinji was "he's abusive, why did the other characters keep pushing him together with Nagi? Why do Japanese and Chinese viewers like his crying and also want them to get together?"
But after repeat viewings and reading those favourable comments, I can appreciate Shinji as a character, even if I don't like how the show tries to push them together.
Underneath the abrasive, manipulative Shinji is an emotionally immature man who grew up in a family that is all about appearances, and it took a fake wedding for Nagi to realise that she is more similar to Shinji than she thought.
Ultimately it is good that the show is mostly about Nagi and how Nagi chose to work on herself first.
Kimura Fumino has tanned skin.In my opinion, the story got boring compared to season 1.
I like it as an adaptation as it has a better narrative than the manga: the connection between the different ideas and details just made more sense in the movie. But I also admit this movie had a slow start.
I do not know if you're familiar with the manga this series is based on, but I think you did watch some episodes of the drama at least. So I'd like to understand your point of view.
Would you mind explaining why you found it boring?
That Alice chick is nuts. She gives serial killer vibes, bro!!
She only cares about money, isn't sincere in her interactions with others, and she assumes that everyone is like her. Props to Yoshioka Riho for playing such a creepy character though!
Finished! I loved it! I totally did not expect to love it this much! I literally randomly decided to watch this…
If you want to see more works with Issey as a main actor, here are my recommendations:
- Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan - Two People Who Can't Fall in Love - Nagi's Long Vacation - Quartet - Until I Meet September's Love - Wife of a Spy - Blank 13
This was my first exposure to him. As a fan of the manga, I was very impressed that he got the character's expressions and personality down flat. He manages to carry the energy of an eccentric and passionate mangaka that Jojo fans know and love.
He also has incredible chemistry with his co-star Iitoyo Marie, and their back-and-forth is one of several reasons why I rewatch this series every now and then. (It has 8 episodes in 3 seasons, and a movie is coming up soon).
This show is about an aroace woman who is looking for a family on her own terms. It is made with care: the showmakers consulted several aro and ace people. It is not often that we get aroace characters leading the show.
I will gladly rewatch it with subs. And I am excited to discuss it with other English speaking fans.
The show managed to elevate the horror of the manga with its own elements.
