I wonder where are the CJ100, Monter Hunt 1/2, The Mermaid crowd? The only thing still stuck around from those "times" is Lin Yun, who is now a super popular idol. Other than that ppl have pretty much forgotten those films!
Just kick forward a few years from now. Think ppl will still remember Wolf Warrior II? Yup. And KFS? Nope!!
The secret sauce these days seems to be if you want to create a smash box office hit in China (which KFS is questionable -- will it even make HALF of Pegasus 3 in the end?) AND make it memorable, you must be like Wandering Earth/Wolf Warrior II/Pegasus/Nezha that portrays China as a source of high (military/car/CGI animation) technology and NOT be like Blades of the Guardians where technology is absent and ppl just using duking it out using dumb crude muscles (or calf muscles aka KFS).
I predict the NEXT major smash hit movie in China after Nezha 2 will be some (domestic Chinese movie of course) movie that incorporates/is about AI. The movie has to have more AI than the AI quantum computer in Wandering Earth 1/2/3. It would be good if the movie also paired AI with robots, but that is not a mandatory requirement!
All Wishes Come True aka Ba Xian aka 8 Immortals just took the lead. It's a family movie that was supposed to have screened just now instead of a week early that's why no FAMILIES showed up for it last week.
Family events are usually preplanned events and you simply can't force people to change their schedule and show up at the theater a week early.
Is anyone following SLAY THE GODS S2 (donghua)? I thought maybe that is Tencent's most photo-realistic donghua launched within the last few years.
It's about using Western Gods' powers to fight other (evil) foreign Gods. Because they are dealing with an international theme, they are catering to international viewers so must put their best foot forward in terms of graphics! This may explain why it looks and feels so photo-realistic compared to Tencent other series.
Anways, S2 is actually very boring even leading up to EP7. I thought EP7 started with a yawner and eye roller where they are trying to escape a Western dragon who looked too strong to be fought head on (that's why they needed to escape and run away from it...) Then after getting getting his friends to safety, hero goes solo and KILLS the dragon.
OMG, that scene was so EPIC!! Just as epic as the fight scene of Fanren EP181!!
(It felt like you're falling asleep at the stadium, then suddenly something awesome is REALLY happening and you must get your butt off your seat to see it!!)
Anyways, if anyone needs a textbook example of "DEATH FROM ABOVE" just point them to the 7th episode of the S2 of the above donghua!!
The further past World Cup finale we are the more weird people in China will feel for going to the theater to see this movie.
Mind you, I'm NOT rooting for All Wishes Come True. It's a joint production with certain foreign companies. Something I'm rather not fond of.
(Plus their Chinese title / logo for Ba Xian aka Eight Immortals looks so weird, it looks like Thai or Hindu characters)
Already completely satisfied with Pegasus 3 being top movie of the year. I don't care if another (certain not KFS and certainly not AWCT) overtake it or come close later this year. I can rewatch PG3 and not get bored. It's that good a movie.
I watched this episode twice in 4K nearly a week ago. The director really makes you feel the epicness of the battle.…
I already got Jade Dynasty S1 + S2 in 4K on my HDD. I haven't gotten around to watching S2 yet. It's burried somewhere in my mountains of HDDs. I need to get an extra large capacity to pool all their data together so it's more accessible and easier to find what I want.
You know what drove this movie the past couple of weeks? Crazies in China hyped up from World Cup. They so crazy, they even want to travel to Spain now... That's how messed up they are seeing China has no (men's) team in World Cup.
This weekend will feel weird for people still interested in the movie China, after World Cup is over.
Entering sub $10 million USD/day territory. Probably something like Xi Jinping was so embarrassed for this movie, seeing how his country utterly sucked at "football" he picked up the phone and urged Eight Immortals (aka All Wishes Come True) to release a week early to steal the limelight...
This hasn't even been released internationally yet, but the haters are already posting negative and misleading…
But to think this movie has international reach is like The Wandering Earth 1 released a decade earlier. People would have made a mockery of Chinese cinema for "over-reaching ambitions".
BTW, the reason I think the prequel had "international reach" becoz Shaolin is exclusively Chinese while Kung Fu is more international recognition. Ppl can't confuse Shaolin soccer with being an international phenomenon but will make a mockery out of Kung Fu soccer on the world stage to no end...
This hasn't even been released internationally yet, but the haters are already posting negative and misleading…
Lol wut international reach u think this movie has?
The world will just laugh how China doesn't even have a team that qualifies for the World Cup. And they dare make a movie on this sport!!
Remember the Wandering Earth 1? What saved it was China was already gone into space or assembling their own space station. Else the world would have mocked China for producing a space SciFi movie when they haven't even been there yet!
Almost as bad as India or Japan making a movie about going to the moon. World would just laugh their heads off when Japan couldn't even land a moon rover properly (it landed upside down on the moon and then that was it millions and time wasted) to become the third country in the world to have done so!
Chen Duo's eyelids don't look Chinese. And her face too, so photogenic. Me thinks she has Japanese ancestry. Or maybe it's a Taiwanese thing as I been on Taiwanese aireline and their female flight attendants faces do look more photogenic than Mainland China flight attendants.
Tencent has gone to shiet. The most recent donghua series they finished as in end of story is Throne of Seal. I didn't remember Duoluo Continent was even so badly animated in the very last few episodes compared to Throne of Seal.
Same can be said of Sword of Coming. I came to be entertained instead every episode and interlude I am attending a lecture on politics.
"Infested"??? That's a pretty racist description. And lower down in another comment, saying someone's…
ZzZzZ last I heard blue collar workers like food delivery and ride hailing are making more than white collar workers, as the work forced transition from fixed job to flexible jobs. Where did you get ur info from?
The most homelessness I ever seen was a couple people sleeping outside McD in Shanghai. In US there are streets and streets full of homeless drug addicts.
Apparently someone very limited insight about the real world.
---------
BTW, just so everyone knows above poster is lying here is the news article on income levels in China. Imagine that food delivery is now considered a high income and "prestigious" job...
"In terms of income, that of flexible workers is growing rapidly. The aforementioned report showed that high-income groups include maternity matrons (10,128 yuan/month), delivery workers (8,325 yuan/month), truck drivers (8,279 yuan/month), all with monthly incomes exceeding 8,000 yuan. In fact, the reason why more and more people are joining flexible employment, besides its appeal to young people, is also because of its "high cost-effectiveness."
I always tired of these "Jump the gun" type movies. They cheat and sprint the track before the gun was even fired.
Remember, Pegasus 3 was launched the same time as its competitors. It didn't get a head start ahead of everyone. It competed faily and squarely at the box office. That's why it's the most respectable current #1 at 656 million USD. Its next closest peer is Dear You currently at 293 million USD.
All the best to KFS trying to displace Dear You despite having obvious head start... (And as I promised I will come back and laugh at certain poster(s) if this goal post cannot even be breached)
are you an idiot? working days will always see less revenue from box office for any movie worldwide lol as people…
I come back especially to laugh at this guy when it fails to cross 300 millions USD in the end. Idiots prefer to look at RMB on an international forum to make themselves feel good.
They think speaking French sounds good on an English forum.
BTW you guys all weird. This is the sport China sucks at the most. Can you imagine how shame/guilty everyone who bought a ticket and trying to make it a national phenomenon must feel?
Dropping like a rock. Suppose the movie averages 8 million USD/day over the next 10 days before blockbusters like All Wishes Come True come steal the thunder:
Now ~126 million USD + 80 next 10 days = 206 million USD.
Then it goes to average 5 million USD/day the next next 20 days and then that's it it been 30+ days in the theater. That's a cumulative of ~306 million USD. Nothing to write home about.
Heck KFS might even be embarrassed to fail to beat Dear You currently at 293 million USD gross.
Plus yesterday only made 15.88 million USD while first day was +30 million USD. The next few days to drop below 10 million a day, then WATCH OUT JULY 24 THE REAL BLOCKBUSTERS COME ONLINE!!
I found this much more enjoyable and engaging than the first season. The reason has to be other than the need to develop this new character Chen Duo and a few new ones like the village master, all other characters have already been introduced in S1, so S2 goes right into the action for them.
Just kick forward a few years from now. Think ppl will still remember Wolf Warrior II? Yup. And KFS? Nope!!

S1 - 8.2/10 (175k votes) https://movie.douban.com/subject/26853822/
S2 - 8.4/10 (125K votes) https://movie.douban.com/subject/36575783/
Ppl (and that includes me) generally perceived S2 to be way better than S1!!
