I'm on 38 and I still think something will come up with her. For now, Fourth young madam helps her escape once she finds out second madam is pregnant with the other guy's baby. She fakes her death and goes to live in secret with the other guy. He's still hellbent on revenge but he slightly cares for her and plans on going away with her once he settles his business. So, she's pregnant and living with her lover. One concern is that the uncle of the boyfriend tells him to get rid of the baby because it's evidence - can't remember what he meant by that.

It starts out as a revenge / seeking justice plot. The hero is madly in love with her and chases her for about 14 episodes when he helps her clear her dad's name.
After that, it's about her integration into his very large family and her solving their problems through cunning and trickery with some cute comedic scenes and some drama - she's good at figuring things out and coming up with solutions.
I'm on epi 38 out of 43 and it feels like there is still something coming up to be the downfall of the family but we can't tell what. The comedy is light and it tends to be subjective - I find the comedy cute with some laugh out loud moments but some might think it forced.

Episode 37 atound 37 or 38 minute mark- Bai Lu was HILARIOUS!!! oMG i was cracking up. She js so talented.

Yeah, it doesnt look long term. He's lonely and she's young and pretty and wants to take care of him and i think he wants to be taken care of. For some many years he's done this one job and witb the co going public and the employess owning stock- whats next for him? HM is possobly temporary cause she's not up to his speed and lacks the polish and self confidence she would need for it to be longterm. Also he's got 20yrs on her. Does she want kids not sure if he does, etc.

Thank you! That was the perfect response to HongMei. I can totally see it now. I still think she has a crush on the CEO but it may stem from awe and inspiration as to what she wants to have. She wants to be seen and respected and all the nice thing as that come with that.
I would totally love a season 2 but it's possible then that the open ending we have interpreted as being with XM may change and she ends up with someone else or that he dates but still pines for her. Also interns of her career, they will probably make her stumble big time.

So, I over thought it. My Hollywood movie brain looks for these types of setups and it turns out it's only XM revealing the truth is to everyone and tricking WM in front of the board. Well done, sir, well done!

I was not expecting the Hongmei CEO romance to have progressed. Shocked. I don't mind it because I think each of them is looking for something the other can give them- and he reminds me of Humphrey Bogart. I found SX s comment to HM interesting - it paints a mire pitiful character of HM. Maybe I'm reading it wrong but it makes it seem like she stuck with XB for so long because she didn't have any other choice - not to say she never loved him just that it may have lasted longer than it should have because she saw no other way.
I would have liked XM and SX to have gotten together but that might have felt a little too fast and fake because we only had about 5 or so min left. I say it's a sign that she is one of the people he goes to see after it all went down. It lets me know they might not be over but it's her decision. I also like the end credits where his attention is constantly captured by something - her. It's so awesome to see that absolute arrested interest.
Loved SX convo with her old boss Wang Yang. It definitely shed a light and made the CEO more undersanble.

Same very sad our time is over although I do plan on rewatching.

Who didn't love episode 7? I was rocking out with her one minute and crying the next. So awesome. So beautiful. Is this where XM falls for her? I think he's been interested for a while cause he keeps looking for her.

Im wondering if XM is recording the deal WM offers him at the end of epi 39. In a previous episode SX is yelled at because she didn't take care if covering her butt in her meeting XMs uncle before his heart attack. The CEO said something about recording it. Also XM was on the phone before heading back to the interview and he tells WM to not treat him like a child cause he wanted WM to spell it out for him.

I think SX is the one we all want to be but sometimes some of us are like HM or XB - it doesn't have to be ok one size fits all. XB was not a bad guy - he was happy with what they he has and because that is who he is. He cant change and I don't think he should have to for her. Nor do I think she should change her wants and needs for him. If they stay together one will always be selfish of the other person's wants and needs and the other will be perfectly content and that is not a healthy relationship. She was not happy and I don't think she's bad for wanting more - even flashier is fine. She has a job and got her own apt - she isn't hanging onto anyone. She benefitted from her relationship with SX but that's fine too because who wouldn't help a friend out with a better job if they could - even if it means some training. This is done all the time.
She may have a crush on the Humphrey Bogart looking CEO but she didn't act on it. She may have acknowledged it but that may have only convinced her to leave before she eventually cheats.
If they are in a rut and at odds in their late 20s imagine them in their 40s and 50s. Love these debates - makes the show even better because we're all thinking so hard on characters and their motivations. ☺️

I think their story is part of the themes the writers want to highlight. Some people who couple up in college don't make it because they don't discuss long term goals and/or sometimes one or both change as they get out in the workplace. Look at Su Xiao and her ex - they broke up because he wanted other things for himself. He loved her in his own effed up way but it wasn't enough. The same for Hongmei and Xiao Bei
Hongmei has been beaten down overtly and covertly. Marias constant belittling and xiaobeis little digs - always mentioninG her 2k raise and why is she working overtime for 2k or buying something. He's happy to stay at home all day and play video games and she wants more.
She has an epiphany and because of the epiphany she took immediate action. The epiphany was to take action and make your own happiness.
Her breakup was brutal but she knew giving him another chance wasn't going to help. As sit-down dinner would have been nice but I think she was afraid to stay in case she caved.

No, tbh, I think XM knew/knows he was going to get caught by SX and is fine with it. I think he's got a lot of pressure on his hands placed there by an uncle who cared for him but who is too shady and reckless. He can't say no to his uncle and so he does stuff he doesn't want to do. xM and SX have had discussions on this and how he doesn't like who he is but she needs to realize this is how the world works.
He wants to get caught so that he can say he did what he could but SX was too brilliant.

But I think they may bring back some people from the past cause the emperor / fiancee was a character in present day as well. I myself would love to see the gang back together again in one form of another inf Forever and Ever.
