I highly recommend Fangs of Fortune to anyone who is interested in traditional chinese mythology and culture, as well as the highlight of a forming team growing into wiser and more skilled individuals, forming deep (!!!) bonds along the way.
I do NOT recommend Fangs Of Fortune to anyone who is here for a very present bittersweet romance and a happy ending.
And finally, in my third comment I want to point out that I also think that something was weird about the screentime of Neo and Dudu. I have not a lot of knowledge on how the director usually does his job, but it’s weird that these two super powerful characters were so limited in their script and also their melancholic, mature and sacrificial love story.
On the other hand I must point out that TJR and YN deserved all the good feedback, the performances were wonderful.
Personally a big fan of a wide palette of very expressional emotions.
A few words to the comic relief:To anyone who ever laid their eyes on the book(s) FoF is based on, called 山海经(…
BUT let me agree with the pain and sorrow of most of our beloved team dying, truly heartbreaking. I’m glad I got some iQiyi merch to remember each character’s story and sacrifice for a long time. Like a daily reminder to cherish life and to accept the beauty and cruelty nature holds.
To anyone who ever laid their eyes on the book(s) FoF is based on, called 山海经( “The Classic of Mountains and Seas”),they will know how extremely utterly dark the content of the stories in there are. And FoF only covered a handful of the stories/creatures of that awesome classic. We usually read texts in classical chinese, but there must be some translations online for you to do some research on and understand the root of FoF.
Based on this information and what I have learned and read so far, I am truly impressed and I will think about FoF for a long time. I’m very grateful for watching the plot unwrap, and I was engaged all the way through.
I also want to point out that FoF has many deep messages to the audience that are not only inspired by the classic but still applicable to our everyday life.
I just finished episode 34 and will watch the specials tomorrow. I’m very overwhelmed with emotions, and honestly I didn’t dislike any character, and I also did not think WX was useless at all, but I do agree with certain aspects of Neo and Dudu’s characters scripts being messed up. I will think about it for a long time, especially since I have been to some of their film spots here in Hangzhou.
98% of the main, support and guest cast dies. Only 3 main and 2 support lived with the possibility of ml returning…
Also, I think it’s important to trace this sad roots back to the original main inspiration, which is the 山海经 (Classic of The Mountains and Seas). I study ancient chinese culture and mythology, and trust me, that book is dark. So the comic relief is absolutely (!!!) necessary.
Everyone saying Sorn went too far with his prank clearly hasn’t worked in a real office before.I’m speaking…
I get your point and sincerely hope that you are doing okay. Sounds like you went through a rough patch in your life, facing these work environments ... sending a well-intended stranger's hug!
I saw the nominations and already new what the comments might look like. My all time favorite for 6 years straight has been “Flower of Evil”. It’s really an unapologetically incredible masterpiece.
