I still feel left in the dark .-. -- even after checking out Weibo posts etc. -- is it because of the unique character design and the story, that also has comic relief? is it because of the reputation of these good Chinese actresses and actors?

Family drama as complex and complicated as it can get. whelp. Episode 17 is insane.

I was watching the first 10 minutes and a bit baffled. Quite unusual approach. Hope their communication will improve till the last episode.

To me, this series displayed the heartbreaking struggles of womenhood in ancient times, where one man (Yu Qi) respects the authority women should have over their own lives and also, together with Jiang Si, helps them get justice:

They had several cases of ‘unhappy marriages’ where the woman would be in a dead-end situation. Mothers and daughters that were not taken serious. Mothers and daughters that were merely treated like objects or tools to climb. Mothers and daughters that made other mothers and daughters suffer to protect/ revenge themselves. Mothers and daughters that protected others and willingly suffered. Women that were too doctrinized and scared to stand up for other women ... Women that were stubborn and dedicated to bring justice!

To me this story was truly unique, despite minor flaws.
