I suppose Wuxia does come into play in NIF, but it's mainly palace politics and revenge.... It's more of a period drama ... NIF 2 is more of a Wuxia....

No, I haven't watched Story of Yanxi Palace..... May Be I should give it a try....

I have just finished rewatching it for the 5th Time.. since I watched it 3 years ago for the first time! Still, a masterpiece and still gets totally emotional and moved me to tears... Every time I wanted to give up watching C Period Dramas because of their stupid endings or stupid plots or their less than mediocre or lack-lustre storylines, I will rewatch NIF to purge and cleanse all the shit I watched subsequently out of me.... There are one or two period dramas that were quite good but none really come close.. NIF IS STILL THE BEST!

I totally agree... I started watching Chinese Period Dramas because of Nirvana in Fire, and boy... I haven't come across another that is so complete, so well-plotted and so well done ad so well-written... I wish I had watched others first and then discovered it much later. That way I won't feel constantly let down or disappointed as I keep measuring them against NIF... sigh

Be it modern or period and costume dramas.. Jeremy looks just as good as he is a great actor .... Miles better than the latest crop of extremely popular Xiao Bai Lians and their almost zero acting skills.. all they have is their insipid pretty boy looks...

I tried to watch it.. I tried... So much potential and so stupid.... why law? why?????? This is the third drama with the FL that I have couldn't watch past first few episodes...... Let me know if it gets better.....

I'll be darn!! Through no fault of the Leads, the script in certain scenes is terrible... Ok the FL is young, I shall not judge her acting skill.. But I do think Yang Xuwen is a very good actor... The scriptwriter made her speak and behave like a teenager.... Why? IT'S NOT CUTE IT'S IRRITATING when you are an adult!!!!

This is indeed the surprise of the year! I thoroughly enjoyed this drama; it is one strange and exciting journey indeed!!! I am surprised that none of the YouTube reviewers did any commentary on it! And I am looking forward to the Season 2 of Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty... Well down to all the cast, the scriptwriter, and the director for giving us a superb drama!
