I really like how Start Up was filmed. But other aspects like the actors and writing can be lacking. He really need a good writer and actors to create a masterpiece.
Remakes like this always make me question why remake at all. The original left things open-ended, so I thought this could have a clearer resolution, but this ending was actually less satisfying.
I thought the drama was kind of problematic with it's strong favor to Western religion. I mean I get it that the drama has Exorcist in the title, but having the Joseon imperial family be involve with the central plot made it seem like they allowed or accepted Protestantism/Catholicism into country which doesn't logically makes sense at the time.
No one is pointing out the reasons why they dislike the writer, but I think it's just a matter of taste/preference. I like the writer because she writes realistic and complicated romances. It makes us reflect on the characters and their relationships. I didn't exactly like her last two dramas, but I'm going to look forward to this one.
I only watched half of the first episode and already hate the direction of it. I was looking forward to Jojo x Hyeyoung romance, but not this way. There wasn't any development for their relationship. And the vibe feels different. I'm not going to continue.
I didn't feel so thrilled about a Chinese adaptation of this, but knowing that it is handled by a Taiwanese director makes this something to look forward to now. I just hope it gets a release date.
Not feeling the romantic chemistry between Park Shin Hye and Jo Seung Woo. For some time now, I had this theory that they were actually father and daughter, but it seems like the drama is leaning toward romance.
In dramas, we all hate the bullies. But in real life... some people seem to have different opinions. Not that I agree with hating bullies one-sidedly. But I think bullies should learn a hard lesson in order to feel apologetic about their past actions.
I used to be a bully when I was just starting school. I'm sure there's no evidence of it except for the victim having a memory of me being a jerk. Karma is good for bullies. I received mine a few years later when I was mildly bullied and outcasted. Terrible attitudes can only go so far.
Yet what if he's innocent? Well, that's some bad luck. His image might be tarnish now, but I believe he'll do fine? Like, he might not get good roles anymore, but he'll still act or do something else. Some fans will still support him too. Plus the entertainment industry is a place where you either make it or you don't. If they don't want you, then that's it.
Honestly Kim Seon Ho is good at acting. His performance may not be "Best Actor" level, but I understood what his character was feeling and thinking. It was like he was the ML. However, Ji-Pyeong is the epitome of the SML's pain. "Why can't it be me?" The drama's answer: Because you're not the assigned ML. I think a male lead should be someone we could root for.
I think it's a bit unfair to bring down a person because they used to bully in the past. They were kids and teens back then. I think it's more important to see if she regrets her actions and doesn't have the same attitude anymore.
