Yifan’s character is complex because his story isn’t just about pain. She wasn’t simply making him relive…
Yup, I understand. It was just tough to watch though, one can almost feel how Sang Yan felt. Kudos to both actors for doing a great job of conveying what their characters were going through.

Watching this, I realized there’s a difference between something being melodramatic and simply sad. This drama leaned into the latter — it was tough seeing the FL feel like escape was her only option, with no one truly on her side.

The saddest stretch of the drama felt like an endlessly dark night or a long tunnel with no clear light at the end. It was frustrating watching the FL ghost the ML not once but twice, forcing him to relive a painful memory he was trying to move past. Given both their personalities and everything the FL endured, I was worried this would drag on longer than it did.

I haven’t seen many of the ML’s dramas, but I did watch and enjoy him in Reset, where he played a smart, intellectual character. In this series, he took on a more typical romance drama role, and I actually liked his portrayal of a more rugged, masculine ML.
On When the Phone Rings Mar 12, 2025
I put off watching the last two episodes because (1) I knew I’d miss the ML/FL once it was over, and (2) I wanted to savor the sweet moments a little longer. After finally watching episodes 11 and 12, I regret waiting—like many others here, I wish I could 'unsee' them. Honestly, I’d rather remember the ending as episode 10 plus the last 15–20 minutes of episode 12.

I respect that production teams have the right to make political statements—it’s their show, their creative choice. But at the end of the day, they’re in the entertainment business, and their primary job is to engage and entertain their audience. When a series' concluding episodes get abruptly hijacked to push a message, it stops being entertainment and starts feeling like the audience is being subjected to the production team's indulgences.

Title The Best Thing Spoiler
It’s so hard not to binge this series! I’m almost halfway through, and I’m trying to pace myself because I know I’ll miss all the heart-fluttering 曖昧 (ambiguous) moments between the leads once I'm done with it. It’s rare to find a C-drama without toxic relationships (aside from the arc involving ML's relationship with his dad), and this one truly lives up to being a healing drama — TCM theme aside!

Its tough for them I rather those people just quit. Haha In the end those slow burn phase will involve the FML…
Yeah I kinda agree with a comment below about how the FML is supposed to be emotionally distant because of what she's gone thru. And so it makes sense that she comes across a little "flat". If that's why people are saying her acting is bad then that's not fair.
On The First Frost Mar 1, 2025
For those struggling to get past the slow burn phase of this drama and wondering if the payoff is worth it — stick with it! In the second half, the main couple enters the 暧昧 (ambiguous) phase of their relationship, and if you enjoy the friends-to-lovers trope like I do, you'll love watching them test the waters and tease out each other's feelings.

Title I Am Nobody
I agree, 8.7 definitely seems to be too low for this masterpiece. I devoured all 27 episodes in 3 days. The story,…
Wow thanks for your suggestions! I was just thinking there are too few dramas like I Am Nobody that I can check out! Link Click sounds a lot like The Midnight Studio to me, so I'll KIV it for now. But I'm going to check out Bureau of Transformer! :)

Thanks for catching me up on what has been discussed on here, and also for sharing about GOTD's target audience! Good to know also that despite the sometimes heated discussions on MDL most (if not all) of us still respect one another's views even if they differ. :)

watchable without the romance. Started skipping all of the princess scenes after ep 10.
Agree! Just for the record, in case anyone thinks this thread dismisses the show because we didn't like the FL/romance sub-plot, I'm still giving GOTD a good rating because I enjoyed it despite not liking the FL/romance sub-plot. (And this is coming from someone who typically enjoys watching dramas of the romance genre.)

Same. I'm at episode 11 and I was thoroughly enjoying it until the princess. I was told the romance isn't the…
I'm the same as well. I've just finished watching this so I'm happy report that the princess and the romance sub-plot doesn't feature much in the later half of the show.

Title Guardians of the Dafeng Spoiler
Found my person. Lin An princess is the most annoying. And brainless. currently at ep19 & im thinking on how to…
Glad to have found my tribe here. Here I was thinking if I was the only one who found her annoying. The only time I could stomach her was a modern day scene (was a dream I believe; can't remember which episode it appeared in) where she toned down the cutesy-clueless act.

I've just finished watching this so I'm happy to be able to tell you the princess and the romance sub-plot doesn't feature much in the later half of the show.

In my perspective they are easily explaining science behind everything they do. I don't know which science is…
Thanks for making the effort to list the discrepancies related to science that you've picked out along the way as you watch this series. Even though I've dropped this, I still enjoy coming back here to read your in-a-nutshell episode mini-reviews in the comments section! <3

I’m usually the first to say we should treat dramas as fiction — they’re not documentaries. But there are limits to suspending belief, even when it comes to consuming fiction. More importantly, science-fiction is not the same as fantasy; sci-fi, by definition, builds on scientific principles, even if loosely. If I wanted to accept everything a writer throws at me without question, I’d watch fantasy instead. That said, I’m not here to hate on the drama or convince anyone not to watch — I’m just sharing my perspective so others can decide for themselves whether it’s their cup of tea. (Just for the record, I decided to drop this after watching 7 episodes. I'm going to spend my time finishing these fantasy series instead: "Guardians of the Dafeng" and "I Am Nobody - The Showdown Between Yin & Yang". ) ^_^

If you don't mind watching kdrama then check out Extraordinary You? It's a bit older (2019) but has a very similar plot imo.

@Drama_fluff Have you watched Esther and DYX in Moonlight? If not you should, I enjoyed their CP in that one too! :)

can someone explain to me why mu qingshi said that miaomiao had back to the past once without realizing it?
They met in school when they were kids. And she both gave him hope (her sunny disposition brightened his outlook) and inspired him (she bravely reported on a school bully).
On Love Game in Eastern Fantasy Jan 23, 2025
Did anyone else notice in the last episodee young Ziqi giving young Miao Miao a slice of apple in the shape of a rabbit? This mirrored how Esther Yu gave the same apple rabbit to Ding Yuxi when they were the main CP in Moonlight?? I don't know if this was intentional but I want to think it was! Haha...

Title Love Song in Winter Spoiler
I completely agree with the ML's 2nd-in-command, he did a good job and I think for a 36ep show he could have gotten…
True what you said about him getting more screen time! Come to think of it though, I'm glad they didn't kill him off! (They could have easily done this with that explosion the villain set up to kill him and the ML!)
