Unfortunately, there definitely has been antagonism shown towards people who hold a different viewpoint towards this character. If you haven't seen it, it does not mean it doesn't exist. I have obviously made this post after experiencing it myself.
That said, I understand your POV. I also understand what on paper, her character is supposed to stand for. That she is supposed to be the one person who looks at others with unrestrained empathy, a bridge between two sides, if you will. My only gripe is, it's poorly executed and there's just not much focus on developing and writing her as an individual like it is on the rest of the squad.
Still, do I want her to have more of a presence? Yes. Am I hoping, there is more impact from her in the following episodes? Also Yes. So, there's that.
These two feel like soul mates and I say that as someone who doesn't ship them romantically at all.
The fact that you can’t say anything about Wen Xiao as a character because it automatically makes you a “hater, or you must be a BL shipper or you must hate women” is just absolutely ridiculous.
Since there is already so much love for her in this section, I’ll give my unpopular opinion and that is that: Wen Xiao is an underdeveloped character whose main job is to wax out poetic and flowery dialogues and cry atleast 49473993 times per episode.
There’s nothing wrong with being physically weak and having subtle strength, nor is there anything wrong with being all heart but honestly, Wen Xiao feels like a Mary sue character that’s definitely used as a shield to get through censorship by GJM who has been frequently ostracised for his BL undertones in dramas. It is what it is.
So, Wen Xiao’s character feels purposefully diluted as a creative choice by the writer. She’s not given any of the impactful scenes, her romance arc is little more than a subplot and she’s supposed to take a backseat to the bromance which is obviously more thoughtfully written.
While all the other members of the squad have their own flavouring, back stories and growth, Wen Xiao is stuck in the box labelled as “pretty pure lady who can do no wrong” and is responsible solely for the visuals in the story.
While all the characters have seen significant growth as the episodes go by, she is still exactly the same as she was in episode 1.
I understand that she is very loved and defended by people here and it’s fine. Boos should do their yous but my take on her character is my own personal opinion.
She had an excellent start but since then, she has just been simmering in a pool of mediocrity and wasted potential. 🤷♀️
GJM is guilty of doing that to his FLs as he highlights the other members of the ensemble and that’s just the play of the day.
No? Just my disloyal self? Ok then. 🤭
K̶i̶d̶d̶i̶n̶g̶. K̶i̶d̶d̶i̶n̶g̶. I̶n̶ X̶i̶a̶o̶ Z̶h̶o̶u̶, w̶e̶ t̶r̶u̶s̶t̶. 😌

“𝑰 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝒁𝒉𝒂𝒐 𝒀𝒖𝒂𝒏 𝒁𝒉𝒐𝒖.”
The way this sentence was delivered was absolutely phenomenal. The responding flash of shock, vulnerability, pain, and ultimately sweet relief on Zhao Yuan Zhou’s face was truly beautiful to watch.
He has been lonely and isolated for far too long, condemned as a villain, burdened by the lives he’s unwillingly taken; his unshakeable conscience is the biggest sword hanging over his head.
For someone else to truly see inside his heart and live in his shoes, if only for a moment must have been like a balm to all the wounds he has harboured for all these years.
And Zhou Yi Chen - the sheer compassion, affection and tenderness with which he said the dialogue was so touching. It’s written as plain as day on his face; that he’d rather let go of the sword that’s forever been a part of him, the only thing that’s left of his family and basically a piece of his heart if it means he must use the sword to slay his best friend.
Truly, the BEST bromance I have seen in a C drama, ever.
🥹 Zhou Yi Chen heroically offering himself to the ice, truly being the roof that shelters all.
🥹 Zhao Yuan Zhou, who fought against the wind itself to reach his friend or die trying.
🥹 Ying Lei, who held up the shield to protect his squad till the end, bearing all the pain.
🥹 Pei Si Jing, who shot arrow after arrow trying to break the ice that curled around her friend.
💀And then there was Wen Xiao.
Wen Xiao, oh Wen Xiao.
Wen Xiao, trying to break the HUGE fucking shackles of ice around her feet by … gently tapping them with her fists as she cries us a river. 🤡👅
I mean, I am no Baize Goddess but even I can tell that you can’t daintily break ice with your fist, dearie. Hell you can’t even break an ice cube with your fist but um … it’s the thought that counts I guess. 🤞🤞🤡🤡🤡🤡
