I'd say untamed has definitely boosted his popularity.... especially since the novel had such a huge fan base…
I wasn't quite referring to the level of popularity but more of the just "making it" factor. The depths of someone's popularity is all gradual. lol You probably didn't remember him afterwards because his role wasn't entirely that big in Oh My Emperor even if he was the second male lead. I mean in the trailer itself I can tell his role wasn't that big... I only think The Wolf could have been the it factor because he was featured along with the other 2 leads. Only 3 people essentially were highlighted in the video. Xiao Zhan landed all those roles before he became "popular" anyways. The judgement of the extent of the popularity is how many main lead roles he lands and get filmed from here on out. (Though he will still forever be a big name now) I think The Wolf would have gotten him popular but the difference is if The wolf aired first fans would be " I want to see him as the main lead!". Whereas in Untamed he was already the main male lead so you can't really go up from there LOL
I'd say untamed has definitely boosted his popularity.... especially since the novel had such a huge fan base…
Loll I've been waiting too! Honestly they were probably going through multitude of problems which is why there is a delay. Especially with Chinas ban on so many contexts. Then the other problem that could have possibly occurred is getting an airtime. Getting an airtime is highly competitive in Chinese television. Untamed doesn't fall into that category because it is considered a web television and not of a high profile/ large production. Which could account for faster airing. I totally agree Xiao Zhan is very charismatic. He had a very memorable screen presence. I remember jokingly thinking who fit what role in another Chinese novel I was reading. I wanted to imagine a face and his face popped in my mind from the trailer u.u. Which is why I think even if untamed didn't air first and The wolf did, he still would have gotten very popular eventually.
LOL might have been an error on this site if that was true. It's obvious that he was a main role from the trailers…
Normally if the second male lead gets support role, it means they didn't hold any significance to the story line. In that case then there would only be 2 leads ( the female lead and male lead). However, it wouldn't be the same in this situation because it was clearly indicated he holds a significant role from the trailer. I don't think they would change his title just because he's more famous, if anything it was probably an error due to lack of knowledge on this drama. They have also updated another second female lead.
They only release it after Sean Xiao rise of fame. Witch mean the untame is the one that’s made him famous.
I'd say untamed has definitely boosted his popularity.... especially since the novel had such a huge fan base to begin with. The boost in his popularity would definitely help make this drama broadcast faster since he is currently in the limelight so it's a smart move to do so. Though, Darren Wang and Li Qin are quite popular actors/actress as well.. so this drama would have most likely eventually air. Part of me thinks that yes Untamed helped boost his fan base significantly but if this drama had aired earlier he would have become popular regardless. (He's also charismatic on camera so that helps LOL)
If not mistaken, first time i checked on MDL, XZ used to be a "support role" in this drama, and now change to…
LOL might have been an error on this site if that was true. It's obvious that he was a main role from the trailers even if he isn't the male lead. Back when the trailer was first released Darren Wang, Li Qin, and Sean Xiao were the main ones featured in it. It is also quite obvious he's the second male lead.
I'm new to dramas so excuse my ignorance but I do wonder, are you taken as a serious actor when all you do are…
I'm a month too late. However, these type of romance stories are popular in Asian countries at the moment. Taking an actor/actress seriously doesn't quite depend on the dramas they do but their actual acting skills and if they land a role or not. Think of the roles an actress/actor play as based on age and demographic. The older the actor/actress becomes the more versatile their roles can get. Today's era has slowly transitioned with these lovey dovey cringy dramas.. it is kind of the new thing LOL. There's more of these types of roles out there than mature roles. Shen Yue is quite young and looks very young. She has a better chance landing cute romance roles than a mature role. Mature roles don't often focus so heavily on looks or care for age so there can be more competition for those roles. I can expect as she gets older and gathers more experience, she will slowly shift into more mature roles. At this moment the competition is huge. As the other user mentioned those other actresses also have acted in cringy lovey dovey dramas. If you look at their upcoming dramas, although they may be romance, the roles/ story line itself is more serious. If she can land a more mature role than good for her. However, it is a smart move to stick with these lovey dovey romance roles and build an audience. Note that most of her current fan base will be on the younger side. As she grows, her fan base will grow and well as the age of those fans. So the transition to mature role will be more fluid. The fans would be literally growing with her. That's kind of how the general cycle actors/actresses go through. Get older than get more mature roles and leave room for younger actors/actress to take the other roles.
Qin Lan and Wu Jinyan are both wonderful actresses! They portrayed opposite characters from each other, so of…
I'm so confused... what do you mean by " her very first time acting". She has acted in two movies and several dramas before "Story of Yanxi Palace" aired. She had acting experience and went to acting school. I think you meant that it was her first actual main role that aired first (excluding Guardian of Beauty)". The definition of "her getting more main roles now that she's famous" would only apply to dramas she filmed after Yanxi aired. You would notice several of the other dramas she has main roles in were filmed before Yanxi aired. She got extremely lucky with the timing. Of the many main roles she acted in, Yanxi was the one that aired first. If it was any of the other dramas, maybe her fame would have happened a bit later until Yanxi aired. It was simply the perfect timing. "Zhao Ge" was filmed before Yanxi but has yet to have an actual release date. "The Legend of Hao Lan was filmed a few months after Yanxi finished filming."
Not sure if you know how filming works but many dramas are aired few month to several years after it's filmed. The film industry has a lot to do with connections to land any roles unless you're famous already. If you look closely, many of the dramas she has main roles in and are filmed before Yanxi aired are connected in some way. Zhao Ge, Untouchable Lovers ( supporting role), Story of Yanxi Palace and Legend of Hao Lan were all produced by Yu Zheng. Shes also an actress under Yu Zheng's studio. That has helped her immensely in landing all those roles.
But one must give credit where credit is due. She won her main role fair and square and it's all deserved. People might just be hating because she got really lucky with timing and she chose a good role.
hey! you got me curious about who are your favorite kdrama female leads? tbh I like ha jiwon but I never got to…
ahaha I figured it could be an age thing. I also prefer to look at actors my age or older. However I'm in my 20's sooo... most of the actors are my age or older LOL. I am semi okay with "noona" romance dramas depending how often the age gap is mentioned. If the focus is entirely on age I don't think I would watch it. However if I see there's something else there outside the romance story I would watch it. I understand your aspect of preferring more mature romance dramas. Though in a sense, in reality those cliche and repetitive romance dramas are in fact catered for the younger audience that enjoy that stuff. I personally enjoy it because for me it's funny how unrealistic is it. It is not to say older people can't enjoy the cliche dramas. Similarly the more mature dramas aren't exactly targeted towards the younger audience. It does suck that there are more "dramaland romance" that are well known than mature style romance dramas out there. Ignoring mature romance dramas and speaking about cliches/ repetitiveness. I see all the comments on how unrealistic kdrama romance is, a lot of people agree with you lol. I guess my rating is really generous because I'm very open when it comes to watching dramas/movies. I don't particularly have a preference. Which is why my list of rating aren't for people to actually look at to see how "great" something was. As an international viewer, what do you define as "too heavily Koreanized"? I'm not Korean either but I also don't particularly focus too much on the universality... probably because I take everything with a grain of salt. I started watching dramaland romance in my teens so I'm quite used to the repetitiveness and cliches. However, I grew up watching hk dramas. Though in my opinion it was...I guess more " mature" in the sense that literally everyone from all ages would watch it. Well, I only think that because everyone in my family would watch the same drama while eating dinner. I for one would never watch the dramaland romance with my family... that would never happen.
hey! you got me curious about who are your favorite kdrama female leads? tbh I like ha jiwon but I never got to…
LOL u.u... according to my "boss" the actors I like aren't masculine enough so I guess I'm one of the people who like the more "feminine" looking men. Though, she isn't entirely wrong but in my defense the age of the actor could be a factor. For ratings, I went to your list to see how you rated stuff to see our difference and my goodness I was like "Wow she really went for it on the ratings." Then again I do rate any drama I actually finished a minimum of 7 ( for the fact that I even finished it). I have noticed quite a few of the stuff you enjoyed are more mature, as mentioned in your profile. Plus you also watch dramas/movies outside the genre of romance too. As for me... I quite like cliches because they give me a good laugh. My list reeks of romance everywhere :'D...only time I watch stuff outside the genre of romance is in Hong Kong drama/movies or if K,C,J,T dramas have extremely high rating I might give it a try.
hey! you got me curious about who are your favorite kdrama female leads? tbh I like ha jiwon but I never got to…
To be fair that person made their profile literally one year ago but seems to have mainly used mydramalist to lurk around. Your comment made me curious about your list. Judging by your profile I can already tell our taste are vastly different. You're into those more manly men though not that I disagree lol. Looking at your list, you're very critical with your ratings. Well... then again you also mentioned it in your profile and I noticed a lot of other people are quite critical on their rating... maybe I'm just too easy-going on the ratings.
Idk about anyone else but... I like watching these dramas because they are so unrealistic that it's entertaining. If I wanted to watch something that was realistic I could just walk out my house and go watch the people around me interact or watch a documentary/drama based on real (love) story. I mean there are some dramas that are more realistic but they tend to be more boring for me. Though I won't lie, some scenes are so cringe worthy I have to pause the drama and leave the room to scream.
honestly same LOL Part of me was like " Yessss! its being adapted into a drama" Then the other half is like " welp... its China so it went from BL to brotherly friendship... with potentially no happy ending.
Why is there such a long delay in releasing this drama? The trailer has left me expecting the sizzling chemistry…
I have heard that most dramas get delayed due to trying to find a good slot time or trying to get a slot time in general. There are more dramas being produced then there are being aired. If it's anything like American television, half are sports, news, reality tv shows, etc. There are certain times were only story based dramas are aired ( which I'm guessing is mostly afternoon / night time where there are more chances of it being view by people getting off work or family to eat while watching). Then take into consideration how only a few "channels" that will host dramas. Each drams that's aired takes about a 1-3 months worth of time before a slot is free for the next drama. I am wiling to bet that the director/producer( people who sponsors the drama) who have better connections to the network(channel) get their dramas aired faster than those who don't quite have all the connections. Hype of the audience helps as well which is probably why they release trailers to get the audiences to help boost chances of airtime. Maybe the amount of people anticipating to watch the drama in china is less than those overseas ( in comparison to other dramas )LOL
