it gets it's high rating because the drama isn't aiming for high production value. This production clearly had…
I don't think Consort Meng Arrives is nearly as low budget as The romance of Tiger and Rose. Though I wouldn't know because I don't know their budget or want to do the research for it. A good indicator of their budget is, amount of outfit chances, amount of extras and the amount of production sets they got. ( maybe also their editing) Also not a fair assessment. Got to wait another two years and see if Romance of tiger and rose will stay in the 8 range. Because there's going to be more people who come here and expect quality like you and get nonsensical comedy instead then end up disappointed. When the production aim is low... I don't think they care about looking cheap LOL. Id say this drama falls under meaning to appear "cheap" in the same way go princess go did well when it first came out. That drama did quite well for it having and even lower budget. So low that they had like 3 sets used repeatedly.

I watched this series and dropped it last year the third episode in and decided to give it another try but i dont…
it gets it's high rating because the drama isn't aiming for high production value. This production clearly had a low budget. You can tell by their casting choices. Rosy is probably the more well known among the cast but even then she still isn't to the same level as some other actors/actresses in high budget productions. The aim of this drama isn't to have high standards or technical great script. It leans heavily on it being a nonsensical comedy and nothing to be taken serious. The current high rating might change/ get lower since its still a new drama but its currently high because most people who watch it aren't there to see quality stuff. The trailer made it overtly obvious what kind of content is going to come out of it. Productions cant do this and get the same results if their script isn't meant to be nonsensical like this. Take into consideration that most high budget productions are high budget because they spent all their money on the actors/actresses next is the sets.

Unpopular opinion: i just think that there are many unnecessary scenes in this drama version. I skipped a lot…
not gonna lie... so true. I be skipping a lot of the other characters scenes. Somewhere I read these characters were in the novel.. though I didn't read the novel so I wouldn't know.

I never said you don't like her because she is beautiful but rather the consequences of her being beautiful/pretty. You are expecting her face to distort the way to your liking. Hence your definition of so-so is someone who lacks being ugly. By nature when most people are showing certain facial expressions like horror, grief, anger or happiness its somewhat on the distorted side of things. Its normally not very pretty. But that's not everyone. Not everyone's facial expressions is going to distort the way you like it. Because she is able to maintain that pretty in most cases you are associating that with "so-so" acting/ not great acting. Hence why i said everyone has their own definition of "so-so".

Everyone has their own standards of "so-so". Clearly your standard of "so-so" are people who cant act ugly enough... She is a pretty girl hence she probably looks prettier doing certain things than lets say someone like me who is more on average looks. Personally for me a "so-so" actor/actress isn't how they lack being ugly in showing emotions but rather how stiff they are. Li Yi Tong isn't a stiff actress. She is decently quite natural with showing emotions... it just so happens she a lot prettier looking when she does it LOL. But that's like almost every other actor and actress out there.
To show some bias because of the replacement is a bit over the top. TI sucks that it happened but Li Yi Tong isn't the one to be blamed for that. She happened to land the role when the producer, screenwriter, director or maybe even the writer of the novel wanted the switch.

Substitutions do suck ... though not gonna lie I'm not remotely attached to the actress who played Appledog in Go Go Squid. Yet I wouldn't classify the actress for this version to be a plastic barbie. Is it because she's pretty? If you're referring to her acting... personally I think it's decently solid in my opinion.

I know what you mean, I ff a lot of other scenes and just concentrate on the main couple
I personally found that part very cringe worthy. But at the same time, I can see it from another perspective. Its like a lie some people would tell to be relatable or like that " wow we are pretty similar" type of sh*t people have done before. Also yes, a bit of a stalker's feel (though at the same time I feel like many girls or guys be stalkerish when they have a "crush") but i wouldn't go as far to say she doesn't have self respect. I feel the story telling lie was just cringe/wrong but the idea of trying to relate to someone you like isn't. That being said, can't say the same about some of those other girls. At least the FL isn't forcing herself onto the guy. forming delusions or guilt tripping.

They are both based on the same novel. I think it's because the author sold the rights to make it to different…
I said the author sold the rights for different production companies to make the drama based on the novel at the same time. Its based on a novel hence, same story. That's both dramas are coming out so close to one another in timeline. The second theory is what someone claimed online. I don't know about that. I personally think it's just the author sold the rights to more than one company. So this isn't a remake but more of both 2019 and 2021 are renditions/interpretations of the novel.

No spoilers please (just on ep1); I started watching this then noticed another drama with the same name on Netflix…
They are both based on the same novel. I think it's because the author sold the rights to make it to different production companies ( there's even a movie coming out as well with different actors/actresses and same story). One other person said that the 2019 ( one probably also on Netflix) did so bad that they made a "remake." I personally think it's the former if we talk about when both dramas were filmed since I think they were filmed less than a year apart from one another. Both dramas based on the same novel so they should have "similarities." I think it's best to consider them as "renditions/ interpretations".

Hello! I still haven't watched this drama, but can you explain the relationship between the ML and FL... I know…
Just randomly butting in. I'd thought I'd give some perspective as someone who currently doesn't exactly "hate" the drama ... yet. So you can make the decisions yourself. Also warning you I'm someone who doesn't take dramas too seriously to the point of criticizing every aspect... cause I'm not trying to think too much when I'm watching dramas LOL
Like the other person said... there's a lot of crazy characters. However, in my opinion... it's a drama meant to dramatize real life aspects. There are all kinds of people who pursue love differently. The drama takes those different type of people and max them out is the best way to describe it.
To answer your question, currently the ML isn't to sure about his feelings. He's halfway bordering towards liking her and simply curious/ not too sure about his feelings. He's currently halfway pursuing her to probably figure himself out on how he feels about her... in my opinion. I think it's not that he doesn't accept but he's not too sure or confident enough. Like I said its real life but dramatized. Not everyone responds to love the same way, some people run away from love. He's open to the idea but more cautious.
Now the FL, she's "secretly" in love. She falls under the category of insecure about her feelings or simply afraid of rejection.
so the relationship between them are currently "friends" that are walking a fine line on developing a relationship.

LOL exactly! my goodness they are edging the the border constantly. Then entire drama feels like a tease. But I'm not hating it. I didn't watch the 2019 version or read the novel. What might feel draggy for me is if a misunderstanding be lasting more than 2 episodes.... we shall see.

LOL I must live in a different word because I think the speed is quite normal/fast to the point I'm like " how in the world did they manage to extend it to 38 episodes" Then again i don't think 38 episodes is that long...
