This was an interesting watch and I liked how it surrounded the idea of a potential water deficit in the future and tying it to the space and water on the moon. I did feel that the overall plot was lacking and not fleshed as well along with the characters. The characters felt monotonous in the sense that they did not come alive and impacted my experience watching the series along with the plot progression. They seem to just exist and thats it. When you only have 8 episodes with a time frame between 30-50 minutes there is not that much you can do but also it is possible to write a better storyline. I have seen other mini series and there are ways to make the plot feel more complete despite the limited amount of episodes and time length. There are so much that could have been done with this interesting theme but I was indeed left with unanswered questions such as why the captain at the end went back to the station (it felt unserious watching that scene because it was so odd and not "heroish" at all. We are not giving that much exposition of the characters as well so it all leaves me with curiosity and emptiness and "dead" emotionally.
Overall, I liked the premise but quite disappointed with the outcome. I think there has been this pattern of prominent lineup of actors and actresses in poorly scripted dramas this year. If there were more exposition to the characters and they had started earlier episodes with being on Earth researching more about this odd phenomenon or explained more about the effects of the moon water, the plot would have been instead better conveyed and a lot more intriguing. The characters needed to be fleshed out more, impactful and alive so viewers would instead not feel as empty watching it. I think we all can agree on that.
Somehow it feels like every other episode the plot repeats itself. Over and over again...
Yes, mentioned that in a comment I just posted and especially with Elle´s storyline which I wish could have progressed a bit quicker. I love Exy so maybe her character was not as frustrating for me personally. However, I understand how difficult it is for her to see a light at the end of the tunnel when she probably felt hopeless and exhausted. It is upsetting how she treated Jenna or was angry at her and the other members. Its definitely a balance of feeling frustrated by her character but also empathize with her struggles.
I feel with idol:the coup there is not a sense of enjoyment and pleasantry in terms of the given plot, and that stems from how emotionally heavy the storyline is. Each episode feels dreadful but I still want to continue to see the success of Cotton Candy. The series will finish this week which means it will be interesting to see if this on the verge of disbandment girl group will experience an extraordinary achievement of receiving number 1. on a music show... and maybe disband? (don´t spoil if its revealed in today´s episode lol). I want to say that the relationship between these five women is beautiful and quite impactful. Jenna´s strength to want Elle back into Cotton Candy and how much she pushes herself to convince her, shows how meaningful this sisterhood is. This also applies to the rest of the female characters starring in this show who all have their own color, personality and story. I love that the series centers around women and all the aspects that comes with this painfully and beautiful friendship in this girl group. I do wish they would have progressed the Elle storyline a lot faster so it did not feel so repetitive as it did and also wish that this pattern of external challenges to which they encountered could have lessened a bit. It does feel that you are expecting a certain trajectory of the plot and similar as such due to how it has stayed that way for a while. Eventually we do see Elle back into Cotton Candy and some things coming together but there could be room for some improvement in terms of the plot direction. It is definitely a positive factor that this series was in a 12-episode format which means less dragging.
I think they shot the ending after the request from the fans because they must have thought that fans will not…
For the sake of preserving the impact to which each episode had I wish they did not go with the direction that fans had in mind. It definitely felt rushed and a bit out of touch with what we have seen so far into series. I wish writers would stand firm in their decision to maintain a certain wavelength throughout the episodes without taking the fans into consideration overall. Thats how I feel but sometimes audiences can give a better suggestion of plot ideas compared to the writers, but not in this one.
The ending was a bit odd and felt like the screenwriters wanted to please the audience by enforcing a happy ending and overall pacing was a bit odd. Maybe the series would have benefitted from having more episodes to work with so the ending would not feel as sudden as it did. Such a bummer to a show that did extremely well so far in my opinion.
I dont think I am feeling this drama unfortunately and the romance is not as captivating as I thought it would be. I did enjoy the inside scoop of the fashion industry but overall plot is a bit lackluster. One important thing to mention is a series that need 5 minutes of flashbacks in the beginning of the episode and 2 minutes of the leads staring at each other at the end of each episode is laziness and not doing it for me. The chemistry is not there as well and I much rather watch a romantic show in which Song Hye Kyo and Shin Dong Wook were the leads. They had a much better chemistry in those few flashbacks we received but hopefully with a better and more captivating storyline. Probably a 12 episode format would be much more fitting for a drama such as this.
Alright so my thoughts on this show so far, this show is def very entertaining with all these intense battles…
I am not knowledgeable regarding dancing but as you pointed out the judges seem to prefer these non-dancing touches rather than looking at the techniques. I felt that there were not that much color and versatility in some of these dancers (although they are phenomenal and don´t take what im saying seriously, who am I to judge lol). Even I could see the dancers that showed more in the technicality if anything. I like Boa and Taeyeong and they do have their dancing positions (Boa being a great dancer herself) but the feedback was not it. It would definitely have been better if one of the judges was also someone with a professional background in dancing and thats their occupation. Overall, I really enjoyed the episode and love how confident the women are and having so much fun. You don´t really see that a lot with for instance idols in these mnet shows.
This mini series is a must watch as it shows a disgusting and dark side of being in the military and another realm of hierarchy used in one´s favor. While watching D.P. I found myself not surprised at the "sweeping under the rug" feel it had to the cases. Militaries want to be portrayed in a positive light thus any bullying and abuse inside will not come out to the public. Bullying and abusing one´s position are two serious problems which needs to be eradicated. However, as it was mentioned at the end of the last episode the same canteen is still there even after 1953. This symbolizes how changes have not been made and probably never will. Sure, one can say it is cynicism but bullying is still embedded in many different spheres in most societies and putting things such as posters promoting anti-bullying messages is just a way of saying its counter-productive. Overall, this series was well made and each episode was enticing to watch. It felt organized, properly executed with excellent characters, all in six episodes. Highly recommend this mini drama because its a great opportunity to understand a huge part of the Korean society which is enlistment.
