Finally gave this drama a try after hearing the news about Haruma (RIP). I was never interested because I rarely enjoy Japanese rom-coms anymore. I gave it a good rating but I did end up dropping it lol.
The acting is really good for a romantic comedy. Especially the female lead: she's like the first Japanese actress I've seen who doesn't have that unnatural "pretty" acting that ruins most Jdramas for me. The story is cute. I liked each character and I enjoyed Sakura's relationship with Tachibana.
I was, however, unable to feel the chemistry between Sakura and Hiroto (and it's not really the age gap, since I love this theme), so I lost interest around the 8th episode. First, because Sakura was a funny character who lacked depth (which is good for a comedy imo) while Hiroto had an unnecessarily serious (and lame) backstory. I felt like these characters didn't match at all. Second, couples with age gap tend to not really be believable so it's hard to understand why they fall for each other; that's why they need a more meaningful connection (or maybe comedic connection, like with Tachibana).
Making a young hot guy fall easily for an average (almost) middle-aged woman without proper development is a cute but it's lazy writing tbh...
I found it entertaining, like your average Korean thriller: lots of stupid actions (the main one being: not calling the police lol) but an interesting plot, a nice scary atmosphere and suspense.
so its a forbidden love becoz they are cousins ?? maybe according to many cultures it forbidden but in Arab muslim…
Cousins in many countries are seen as almost brothers and sisters, they're family members, that's why it's taboo. I like watching movies like this but I could never do the same irl! To add, marriage between cousins creates birth defects/diseases in the children of future generations. In the West, when someone has a weird or deformed face or body, people sometimes bully him/her by saying they're "inbred" or "his/her parents must be cousins". It was accepted in the past, but thanks to medicine, we have discovered that marriage between cousins was the reasons for many medical problems. It's interesting you talk about Arab cultures because most people I've known with birth defects/diseases were Arabs and each of them had parents who were cousins...
It's a real mistake from the writers imo, they gave us too many scenes with the 2nd ML in the first eps so now…
SJH definitely has presence and he's a good actor. I believe he outshines Yoon Hyun Min as a CEO, even when acting as a young and immature little brother. I hope he gets lead roles or more serious dramas because otherwise, it would be a waste of talent. He kind of reminds me of Ji Soo: presence, good acting skills (he's not awkward like 95% of actors of their generation), a natural and more traditional handsomeness... BUT NO PROPER LEAD ROLES! Lol
I think A LOT of us are watching this drama because of Seo Ji Hoon and we're kind of blinded by him lol. Plus, the fact they gave him so much screentime during the first 4 eps ( (he is present in almost half of each ep), with cute "couple" scenes, makes us root for him even more. Let's not forget they've lived like brother and sister for 19 years so she will never see him romantically, no matter how much the boy loves her. Don't hurt yourself with that 2nd lead syndrome: either start seeing the appeal of the ML (he is creepy for a good reason I guess, he'll become cute later!) or... drop the drama lmao (something I'll probably do soon tbh haha)
I'm still having trouble connecting with the ML. I prefer the 2nd Male Lead. I've tried to like the ML and it's…
It's a real mistake from the writers imo, they gave us too many scenes with the 2nd ML in the first eps so now we feel more connection to him than the ML.
so you're telling me both ML's are appearing as love rivals again lol so soon!!
Seriously lol, and once again it's a story about the characters existing in the past and all. Did no one in the production team think it would be too weird? But tbh I prefer the characters in this one.
Rewatching this drama 9 years later. Miri is definitely in my top 3 favorite drama characters (I'm biased tbh, since I love Lee Da Hae so much). I can't watch dramas with spineless and "perfect" lead characters anymore. It's not a drama for everyone, you need a minimum of open-mindedness. Don't bother if you only like typical K-drama lead characters and think lying is a huge crime. The directing is lacking imo (like majority of K-dramas, especially pre-2018 dramas) and there are a lot of annoying stereotypical characters. Another huge negative point: Park Yoo Chun's acting is terrible lmao. Seriously, he's the biggest negative point of the drama. I thought it 9 years ago, I think it now (I actually took so much time to rewatch this drama because I can't stand his acting). I remember the days when they casted him as a lead in good dramas, it was a nightmare! Here, his character is so cringy too so I had to skip many of his scenes. Still, the story was too interesting for me to drop it because of him lol.
I hope someone subs this, I watched the first ep raw and I want to know what actually happens in detail as it looked nice. I don't know why so many people only think about sex/rape when they see age gap stories (it's fiction), I personally find them cute. This one might be a little too much though, good thing the guy doesn't look 14 at all (which at the same time is sort of stupid tbh, Jdramas always have males way too old for their school boy roles but actresses of the proper age).
EDIT: I found subs and I really liked it. The acting is very good and they have great chemistry. But yeah don’t bother if you hate the fact the boy is in junior high. If anyone wants to see the first ep subbed, you can find the subs on d-addicts and download the raw on j-raws. Second ep raw is on j-raws too.
